Doris Williams Obituary

Doris L. Williams

February 3, 1935 - February 19, 2025

Doris L. Williams, who is affectionately known as "Ma-Ma," entered this world on February 3, 1935, and departed this world February 19, 2025. Doris was born in the city of Aiken, SC, and grew up surrounded by her loving family in Atlantic City, NJ, during the year of 1944. She was the fourth bundle of joy born to the late James Robert and Mother Eva B. Dorn. Doris later met Reuben Williams, whom she married and started a family with (Rose Marie, Patricia Lynne and Mark Jeffrey Williams).

Doris being a child of God and having a sweet appreciation for God Almighty, values were instilled into her and her children at an early age. She embraced family values and became a surrogate mother to her sister's children (Troy and Trenee Dorn) whom she loved like they were her own. This also set the tone for her to welcome all her family members into her home where they sometimes had prayer services, family dinners, and even fun.

Doris was full of life when it came to crossword puzzles and playing board games such as Sorry, Life, Candy Land, Monopoly, and many more games with her loved ones. That brought so much life to her. Doris loved getting dressed up and "flashy." She loved nice and fine things.

Doris is predeceased by her husband, Reuben Williams; mother and father, Eva and James Robert Dorn; daughter, Rose Marie Mays; sisters, Effie Coleman, Eva M. Scott, Juliette Dorn, and Mary Norwood; and brothers, Arthur Dorn and James Dorn.

Doris is survived by her children, Patricia Surratte and Mark Williams (Dora Wood); also, the children she raised, Troy and Trenee; grandchildren, Tara Mays (Jonathan Richardson), Perry Mays Jr., Markus Mays, Michael Mays (Shakemia Mays) (born to Perry and Rose Marie Mays), Leighann (Justin Edwards), Demitri Surratte (born to Demitri and Patricia Surratte), Myles Williams, Chima Benson (born to Mark and Lisa Williams) and, Tyshirah Dorn (born to Trenee Dorn); special granddaughter, Danielle Ashley (Anthony Ashley); her great-grandchildren, Donald Pilgrim III, Dynasty Watson (Peter Watson), Diamond Pilgrim (LaQuan Manuel), Michael Mays, Samony Mays, Markus Mays, Shyquan Clinton, Sanai Mays, Khyla Clinton, Melia Mays, Kinleigh Clinton, Dominick King, Nadia Olmstead and Melodi Mays.

Mama even had GREAT great-grandchildren, Donald Pilgrim IV, Jasai Pilgrim, Chloe Watson, Noel Watson, Saint Pilgrim, LaQuan Manuel Jr., Lexi Manuel, and Nova Watson; her sister, Barbara Dorn (Bobby); brothers, John, Isaac, and Gene Dorn (Susan); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family takes this opportunity to thank the Critical Care Units at Atlantic Care Medical Center-Mainland Division.

Mama lived a long, beautiful, and healthy life. There will be a farewell service held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at New Shiloh Baptist Church, 701 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City, with viewing from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Pleasantville. Repast at the All Wars Memorial Building (Soldiers Home).
