Douglas Garner Obituary

Garner, Douglas Allen, - 78, of Edgewater, FL formerly of Beesley's Point, NJ passed away on April 22, 2021. He was born the third of four children to James Bruce and Lottie Rebecca Garner in Wilmington, NC. Doug was raised in Scott's Hill, NC, and graduated from Topsail High School in 1960. After graduation, he entered the US Coast Guard and was stationed in Atlantic City, NJ. He spent five years active duty before transferring to the Reserves. He is predeceased by his wife of 34 years Sherril Ann, parents-James Bruce and Becky Garner, brother-Roger, and brother-in-laws Norbert Lanier and Scott Johnson. Survived by son-Douglas Jr. (Kate), daughter-Dana Avis (Greg), granddaughters-Courtney and Devon, grandsons-Douglas and Stephen, sisters-Sandra Lanier and Pamela Perry (James), sister-in-law Myril, five nieces and brother-in-laws Ken Johnson (Joan), Mark Johnson and nephew Brent W. Johnson (Audra). He was employed by Caesars Casino for 12 years before retiring. Doug was a fisherman, boat builder, hospitality manager, information technology employee, and a licensed boat captain. Private burial at Head of the River cemetery.
