Edith Kramer Obituary

Kramer, Edith, - Edith Kramer (Engelberg) died on March 18, 2023, after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last fall.

Edith was born in Stuttgart, Germany on January 8th, 1937, to David Engelberg and Gusti Groebel during the turbulent years of Hitler's rise to power. The family arrived in New York on the St. Louis in October, less than 2 weeks before Kristallnacht, and eventually established a new life in the vibrant Jewish community of Atlantic City, NJ.

Edith, who was Miss Camp By The Sea in the 1940s, met Arthur Kramer in high school. They married in 1955 and started a family. She worked as an assistant to a local obstetrician while Arthur launched a career as a controller and entrepreneur. The family relocated to Cherry Hill, NJ, where they made many lifelong friends.

Family and community were Edith's passions, but she also helped Arthur run his business. Later, she discovered that she was a talented plant whisperer and started Plants Exotica, a supplier of beautiful plants to homes and businesses. In her later years, she grew lovely orchids on her terrace.

After her children were grown, Edith relocated to Boca Raton, FL, where she met Bernie Strauss. They were inseparable for more than 20 years and enjoyed a wonderful retirement with many friends and family.

Edith is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Gail Engelberg, her two children, Michael Kramer and Debra Blum, and five grandchildren, Harris Blum, Jena Blum, Annie Rose Blum, Samuel Kramer and JiJi Kramer.
