Boerner, Ernest, - 87, of Manahawkin, Ernest Carl Boerner left this world to be with his Creator on Saturday, January 29, 2022 after a brief illness. Ernie was a loving and beloved son, nephew, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, husband, pet owner, and friend. Family and friends were the center of his well lived life. Anything written here is a gross understatement of who he was and will continue to be in our hearts and minds. Ernie is reunited with his wife Virginia 'Peg' Alman, parents Martha and Ernst Boerner, and sisters Nancy and Joan who all preceded him into eternal Glory. Left to continue his legacy here on earth are his four children, Bonnie Koletas (husband Leonidas) of Annapolis, MD; Eric (wife Mary Jane) of Mt. Laurel, NJ; Robert (wife Anne-Marie) of Providence, RI; Nancy Monzo (husband William) of Hammonton, NJ; and their mother Teresa 'Terry.' Ernie had 10 grandchildren: Domenic, Megan, Nicole, Andie, Ryleigh, Jon, Jackson, Molly, Rachel, Bill, and great-grandchild Gordon. Ernie was born in Brooklyn, NY, October 2, 1934. He lived in Washington, D.C. and spent the greater part of his youth in Egg Harbor City and Lower Bank, NJ. He graduated from Egg Harbor High School in 1952 before enlisting in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He served at sea on the USS Canberra and USS Perry. He enjoyed attending the annual reunions of both his high school and ships' crew. Ernie was a long time employee of Bell Telephone Co. before starting two business ventures, Southern Realty and Southern Communications. Ernie was on the frontline of the emerging cable television boom of the late 70s and hosted a live local cable game show, Wingo. Despite the renown of a television personality, it was Ernie's service to his community that was his trademark and local legacy. Indeed, at the time of his death, he was working with State and Federal officials to have Route 72 renamed "Veterans Highway" in honor of those who unselfishly gave everything for their state and country. During his life, he held the positions of Past Master of the Hiram T. Dewey Masonic Lodge #226; School Board President, Southern Regional School district; Scoutmaster, Boy Scout Troop #23; Director, Stafford Township Athletic Association; President, Stafford GOP; Chairman and Organizer of the Stafford Township Founders Day Celebration. Ernie was a founding and lifetime member of the congregation at The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit. He was also known to throw a decent house party from time to time. To recognize and celebrate Ernie's life, his family is organizing a late spring event. Visiting hours will take place at Thos. L. Shinn Funeral Home, Manahawkin, Friday evening, June 10, 5:00-8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit the next day, Saturday, June 11, at 11:00 am. A celebratory event will follow at a currently undisclosed location, or as Dad would say, "not for publication at this time." Everyone and anyone who was ever touched by Ernie Boerner (emotionally and/or legally) is invited to attend!
