HERBERT THOMPSON Obituary

THOMPSON, HERBERT "HERB" 82 - of Largo, Florida passed away on August 7, 2013. Born on December 14, 1930, in Pleasantville, NJ, Herb was a 1948 graduate of Pleasantville High School. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in Chemical Engineering from New York University. Herb worked his way through college while employed by Colgate Palmolive and Port of New York Authority. He went on to own his own companies, Thompson Laboratories, Inc., and Thompson Consulting Services. In recent years, Herb was also employed as an adjunct assistant professor in the Graduate College of Engineering at University of South Florida in Tampa. Herb worked diligently and obtained a United States patent for a medication he developed. He also authored a book on weight reduction. Herb was very active in Rotary International, proudly serving as the president of three different clubs and once as Assistant District Governor during his 40 year membership. He was most enthusiastic about raising funds to eradicate polio. Herb served as President of the National Pharmaceutical Alliance and testified before both houses of Congress in 1978. He was also a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and numerous other organizations. Herb chaired the School Advisory Council in Clearwater for six years. He was instrumental in implementing basic life skills courses into the curriculum. For many years, Herb was the president of his condominium association. Herb was also president of his country club when he resided in Michigan. Herb was predeceased by his parents, Marion and Herbert, as well as his sisters, Dolores Brown and Emma Moberg, and his niece, Connie Brown. Herb was also predeceased by Jean Abele Thompson, his loving wife of 43 years. Herb will be dearly missed by his devoted sister, Diana (Charlie) Adelizzi of Seaville; his nephew, Eric Adelizzi of Virginia; his niece, Linda Morceau of Florida; his nephew, John (Char) Moberg of Maryland; and two great nephews, Eric and Alex Moberg of Maryland. There are many whose lives Herb touched who will remember him for his kindness, caring, and selfless dedication. Herb will be inurned next to his wife in at Sylvan Abbey in Clearwater, Florida. At Herb's request, there will be no services.

I was privileged to serve with Herb for several years in the Rotary Club of Clearwater Feather Sound. He was instrumental in helping me to grow into leadership in Rotary. Herb was the real thing. My condolences to his family.

Herb Thompson was a valued and active Member, Past President, and champion of kids for our Sunrise (then Gateway) Rotary Club. He was active in forming the SAC at Northeast High School helping to return the school to one of excellence.

He did Engage Rotary and he did Change Lives for the better.

tell he was a wonderful man; who was loved deeply by his family; especially the Adelizzi family. What a dedicated,
involved and compassionate person. May

Wow-what an interesting life! It is so inspiring to learn about all the hard work & dedication that he'd put forth. It was a pleasure getting to know Herb this past year, as he lived in Largo. I will miss his spirited presence. All the best to the Thompson family.

I WASN'T FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO KNOW THIS BRILLIANT MAN AS WELL AS I HOPED, WHO WAS LOVED BY MANY. I FEEL DIANA, HIS DEVOTED AND LOVING SISTER AND HER HUSBAND, CHARLIE AS WELL AS NEPHEW ERIC ADELIZZI HELPED HERB TO LIVE COMFORTABLY. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
