Heriberto Acevedo Obituary

Acevedo, Heriberto, - 89, of Rio Grande, NJ (recently of Ocala, FL) passed away on September 23, 2023. Heriberto was known as 'Eddie' most of his adult life and later affectionally known as 'Herbie.'

Having grown up in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, his father passed away when Eddie was only two years old. He worked from an early age to help support his family. At the age of 13, Eddie moved to the United States to live with his oldest sister in New York City, where he attended school and worked at night. At the age of 17, he found a job at a textile company in Woodbine, NJ, where he met his future wife, Elizabeth Marriner (Liz).

Eddie and Liz moved to Linden Lane in Rio Grande where they raised six children. He would go on to work as a machinist/supervisor at Monaghan's Tire Company for 50 years. They attended Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, supported the local Fire and Ambulance Squads and were regulars at the Rio Grande social dances.

Eddie loved going to the beach, tossing a baseball, and spending time with his children. He loved his family. In 1992 the pair moved to 98th Street in Stone Harbor, Liz's favorite town. Sadly, four months later Liz passed.

Herbie was a personable gentleman, always smiling and enjoying meeting new people. He had a real zest for life. He became a beloved member of the town of Stone Harbor, where he resided for seven years, making friends old and new. He always made sure everyone was having fun and was often the life of the party.

He then spent the next 20 years with his children, visiting each of them for a few months a year. On his last day he was in great spirits, dancing, singing, eating carnival food, and enjoying the day with family.

Eddie was predeceased by his parents, Dimas & Maria, his brother Renaldo, his sister Edie, his sister-in-law Franny, his brother-in-law Confessor, and his daughter Mary. His love for his wife's family ran deep. He was also predeceased by his in-laws, Joe, Frank, Charlie, Billie, and Bobby Marriner.

He is survived by his sons Robert (Anne), Edward (Celeste), Christopher (Kay), Patrick (Kelly) and David; his grandchildren Jeff, Eric, Brooke, Amy, Greg, Krista, Shawn, Chad, Karylin, Kari, Jenna, Matthew, Morgan, Michael, Zachary, Ethan, Jacob, Emily, Andrew, Sarah, Bella and Dominic, his great grandchildren Ashley, Joshua, Eva, Anya, Camilla, William, Charlotte, Celina, Benjamin, Nolan, Conrad, Nicholas and Nora; great great granddaughter Emberlynn and another pending arrival in November; his brother Dimas, his sister Hilda and numerous nieces/nephews. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Peggy (Elwood), Eileen, Barbara, Norma, and Gladys.

Please join us for Herbie's Celebration of Life at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Ave, Cape May Court House, NJ, on Saturday, October 14, 2023.
