It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Jack Slate Tolley, a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem. He was a devoted family man, a proud Navy Veteran, and a cherished friend to many, who passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on September 19, 2025.

He was the beloved husband of Toby, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and unwavering partnership. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Lisa Tolley and Karen Duggins (Rick), and a deeply proud grandfather to Andrew Duggins (Brittany), Morgan Duggins (Thomas), and great-grandchildren, Lylah Duggins and Raelynn Chambers.

Jack was preceded in death by James E. Tolley (father) and Margaret Tolley (mother); brothers, Jimmy Tolley, Larry Tolley, Joe Tolley, Stephen Tolley, David Tolley, and Alvin Tolley. He is survived by his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sisters, Patricia Glenn (Russell) and Tammie Tate; and many nieces and nephews.

Jack proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years, followed by an additional four years in the Naval Reserve. His sense of duty, discipline, and patriotism were values he carried throughout his life, both in service and beyond. Jack retired early from R.J. Reynolds in 1991. In addition to his long career at RJR, he formed Chateau Painting Inc. with a true friend and business partner, Tom Pastirik.

But beyond the uniform, Jack will be most remembered for the way he loved: fiercely, selflessly, and without hesitation. He had a gift for making those around him feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether it was sharing stories, lending a helping hand, or simply offering a warm smile, his presence left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Davidson Funeral Home in Winston Salem from 6 to 8 p.m. with a funeral service to honor his life on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, starting at 2 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home Winston Salem Chapel. A committal will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Jack lived a life of quiet strength and integrity, rooted in love for his family and country. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.

The Tolley family would like to extend a special thanks to his caregiver and friend for the last three years, Sharon Monk, and to Hospice and Palliative Care Center for their support and care.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
