Jay Demarest Obituary

Demarest, Jay R., - 83, of Palermo, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021. Born in Montclair NJ and formerly of Bloomfield, Jay has been an area resident for 35 years. In his early years, he served in the US Navy during peacetime and later worked as an auto mechanic at Bennett Chevrolet. Jay was also an avid wooden bird carver, a member at Wesley UM Church in Petersburg, Cape Harmonaire's, Angelus Chorus Cape May County, and also sang with the Seven Mile Island Singers. He is predeceased by his parents Charles and Marie Demarest, and brother Charles Demarest. Jay is survived by his wife Janice, children Susan Dunn, Anne Demarest, Michael Demarest and Jay Demarest, stepson Edward (Sally) Morris, granddaughters Ashley, Skylar, Jennifer, step-granddaughters Hillary and Devon, and brother Dennis (Paula) Demarest. A service, for Jay, will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 11am at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 400 Dennisville Petersburg Rd., Petersburg. We are very sorry to hear about Jay's passing. Glenn enjoyed singing barbershop with Jay. He was always smiling and happy.

So sorry to hear about my friend Jay. He was responsible for the hand carved wood fish that was on top of our mailbox on Rt 9. We dressed her up for every occasion!! Rest in peace Jay. Thanks for the great memories
