Joseph Viola Obituary

Viola, Joseph "Joe Poe", - 89, of Longport, January 19, 1934 - March 1, 2023 Our Dad… "When my father didn't have my hand, he had my back." On March 1, 2023, at our family home, our father peacefully passed on to meet our Lord to begin his journey to his eternal reward, reunite with his beauty queen bride of 58 years and a host of beloved family and friends. First and foremost, our dad was deeply rooted in his faith and committed to working hard every day to ensure his family had every opportunity possible in life. He wanted his kids to value education, "It's an investment that never goes bad", he'd say. He was a force for us on earth and we are counting on him remaining a force from above. Though he cherished and never forgot where his story began, "It's a "South" Philly thing.", he decided to move us permanently to our summer home here that he built in 1961 with his brother Mike. Though we joined our family in Philly for every holiday, our shore home became our forever home where we made many special childhood memories that we continued with our own families. Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife, Giacinta Viola; paternal grandparents, Michele Viola and Carolina (Caruso) Viola; maternal grandparents, Giuseppe Raspa and Innocenza (Ciluizo) Raspa; parents, Marianna (Raspa) and Nicola Viola; siblings, Carolina Pero, Michael (Della) Viola, as well as a host of beloved and greatly missed family and friends. Dad, Pop is forever in the hearts of his children Maria Viso, Denise and Mike Monahan, Nicholas and Randi (Lempert) Viola, Sylvana and Michael Blee, and his precious grandchildren, Nicole, Ashley, Natalie, Lauren, Joseph, Naomi, and Nicholas. A visitation will be held Friday, March 10, 2023, at Epiphany Church, Longport, from 9 until 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org/donate. Arrangements by the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, Linwood - Ventnor. We never knew what the heart of South Philly was until we became neighbors to Joe and Ginger! Very quickly the entire Viola family became our family. We celebrated communions, weddings, graduations, baptisms, and so many happy times together. Joe (and Ginger) was always eager to help us-whether babysitting Alexa when Ava was born or and then Alexa and Ava when Ashley was born. Joe was always a very wise man and had a strong sense of right and wrong. We couldn´t have picked a better street to live on than 30th because of you and Ginger. Your memory will always be in our hearts and minds. You are with your bride now. Our love,

Regardless of how old I got, you never stopped lifting me up...physically when I fell asleep on your lap at family weddings and emotionally as I got older with our family time spent on 30th Street. You introduced me to the pizza and fried shrimp at Tony´s Baltimore Grill and always welcomed me into your home with a smile and a hug. I´ll miss our convos at the holidays and I´ll especially miss the sound of your voice. Rest in Peace Uncle Joe and please give Aunt Ginger a huge hug for me. I miss you both desperately and love you even more.

Uncle joe had the best smile that made his eyes twinkle. His kind heart was always eager to lend a hug, give advice, or laugh at your jokes. His arms gave us safety at a young age and then our arms gave him safety as he got older. We will forever be grateful for those years on 30th street surrounded by our favorite family. Love you so much Ava aka A-team

Joe was a dear friend. We met every morning for over 25 years at Ozzy´s morning breakfast club. Founded by the late Billy Kretchmer.
He was very dedicated to his family and to the community, and we became very good friends over the years. He
Was especially close to his son Nick who he talked about constantly with glowing approval, for his academic achievements. I will really miss him. No doubt we will see hi
m again soon with our creator.
Most sincere condolences
