Margaret Mary Maury
March 31, 1936 - July 1, 2025
Margaret Mary Maury (nee Costello), affectionately known as Marge, aged 89, passed away with her family by her side, at the home of her daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, Timothy Mooney, after a long illness. She was a loving wife and adored mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her greatest gifts in life were her love of people, compassion for others, and devotion to her family. Margaret was born in Atlantic City in 1936 to Robert and Margaret (O'Brien) Costello. She was a devoted daughter and beloved sister to her brothers, Robert and Daniel. Marge attended Our Lady Star of the Sea and Holy Spirit High School in Atlantic City. She was an avid dancer, studying ballet and traditional Irish dancing. During those years, she forged many great friendships that continued throughout her life. She enjoyed their reunion luncheons and endless hours talking on the phone, which continued until her death. She met her first husband, James Santa Maria, at Holy Spirit High School, where he played sports and she was a cheerleader. Together they had three daughters, living in Ventnor and briefly in Connecticut before returning to her beloved Chelsea Heights to raise her girls. Marge began her banking career at Guarantee Bank in Atlantic City, working her way up from teller to branch manager. She enjoyed meeting new people and helping everyone. Margaret married Maurice Maury on December 31, 1977, moving to Linwood, where she had the privilege of gaining another daughter, Jeannine. She loved her extended family. It was during this time that Margaret began caring for her aging mother with gratitude and love, until her passing. Margaret enjoyed going to the beach, long walks on the boardwalk and bike path, and her garden. She was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea, then Elizabeth Ann Seton, and was a member of the Absecon Irish Women's Society. She cherished her many cousins, nieces, and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Margaret enjoyed her last two winters in Florida with her daughters, visiting the sights, going to shows, taking car rides along the coast, going to dinner and just sitting in the warm sun. Nothing meant more to her than time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her dearest family. Margaret is predeceased by her parents, Robert J and Margaret Mary (O'Brien) Costello; her husbands, James Santa Maria and Maurice Maury; daughter, Lori Ayres; her brothers, Thomas and Robert Costello; and countless beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by daughters, Lisa and husband, Timothy Mooney, Linda and husband, Joseph Taggart; son-in-law, John Ayres; and daughter, Jeannine and husband, Frank Williams. "Guma" is also survived by 12 adoring grandchildren, Timothy (Sally) and Terrence (Stephanie) Mooney, Lauren, Joseph, Christy and Alison Taggart, and Alison's husband, Kyle Nolan, John and Kelly Ayres, and Rebecca, Marijan and wife, Ashley, Annalea and Sarah Williams; and four great-grandchildren. Marge is also survived by her brother Daniel and sister-in-law Pat. We were blessed to have her in our lives for so long. Margaret's legacy lives on through the family she raised, the values she passed down, and the lives she touched.
