Max Nunberg Obituary

Nunberg, Max, - 76, of Vineland, passed away on August 22, 2023. He was born in Weiden, Germany and came to America in 1949 moving to Vineland a short time later with his parents and older brother Sam. Locally he attended Jewish Day School, Yeshiva High in NYC and Vineland High School Class of '65. Max, a 100% disabled veteran, proudly served over four years in the US Navy as a corpsman attached to Fleet Marines and then as a dental technician. From the early 60's until his father's passing in 1987 he was in Nunberg's Kosher Delicatessen and Catering as right-hand man to his parents. An avid cook and undisputed 'schmaltz herring king' everybody knew the good food and a good time could be found wherever Max was - which was usually the kitchen. Max loved his '75 yellow Triumph convertible, good sipping tequila and his beloved wife of 27 years Andrea, having met her on the school bus and saving her a seat every day in his junior and senior year at Vineland High. Together since 1981 they were almost inseparable. In the late 80s and early 90s they worked together to form a company, Travel Helpers, during which time Max began aiding families throughout North America who were seeking to adopt children from Romanian orphanages, personally helping more than 500 children fulfill dreams of a new home. Together they traveled as often as possible, loving Caribbean beaches, cruises, and every opportunity to party with family. Serving for many years as president and chairman of the board of directors of Sons of Jacob Synagogue Max believed that 'if you feed them, they will come' and indeed his Yom Kippur break-fasts were legendary. Max was survived by his beloved wife Andrea; stepson Frank LaMarro, III; sister Susan N Kutner; nephews Benjamin Kutner and Aaron Kutner (Elyssa); great nephews, Mark, Mason & Madden; brother Dr Robert Nunberg (Elizabeth); nieces Sarah & Caroline; brother Milton Jerry Nunberg (Mindy); nephew William; brother-in-law, Dr. Andrew Mancini (Elaine); nieces, Alexandra and Nicole and much loved cousins around the world. Max was predeceased by his parents William & Esther Nunberg; brother Rabbi Samuel Nunberg & brother-in-law, Mark D Kutner. A generous, passionate and kind man, artistic, and talented who loved his family, friends and his country Max will be missed beyond measure, and his absence will leave a hole in the fabric of the lives he touched. Services were on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow in Alliance Cemetery, Norma.
