Nicholas Maggio Obituary
February 14, 1943 - October 13, 2024
Nicholas Peter Maggio Sr., known to many as "Pete" or "Pete the Lifeguard", formerly from Somers Point, passed away on Sunday October 13, 2024 at the age of 81 in St. Augustine, FL, surrounded by his family. Pete was predeceased by his mother and father, Marie Rizzo Maggio and Peter R. Maggio; his brother, Joseph Maggio; and his granddaughter, Keilani Maggio. He is survived by the love of his life, Susan G. Maggio of St. Augustine, FL; his sons, Nicholas Peter "Pete" Maggio Jr and his wife Kelly of Linwood, NJ, Matthew Holibaugh and his wife Melanie of St. Augustine, FL, Richard Holibaugh Jr and his wife Lisa, from Pearl City, Hawaii; as well as Pete's sisters in law, Catherine "Casu" Grove of Mesa, Arizona and Barbara Maggio of Florida. Pete also had six beautiful grandchildren whom he was so proud to be called Papi by and whom he loved dearly. We can't forget to mention his dear friend throughout his lifetime, Gary Israel. Thank you for the memories. Donations in Pete's memory can be made to Autismspeaks.org. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 19th starting at 6 p.m. followed by a service at 8 p.m. at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home in Linwood. The next day, Sunday July 20th, there will be a paddle-out to scatter Pete's ashes held at Raleigh Avenue beach in Atlantic City starting at 6:30 p.m. All are invited and encouraged to wear beach/Hawaiian attire. I´ve known Pete since I was a little boy in the 50´s. He was the football hero of do many of us kids. I remember Pete from the ACBP and we taught together many years ago at the Atlantic Village in AC. He was quite a guy and he will be missed!
