Robert DiMeo Obituary

Robert V. DiMeo

November 16, 1933 - December 11, 2024

Robert Vincent DiMeo, of Ventnor, affectionately known as "Duck," passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on December 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 16, 1933, in the heart of Ducktown on Georgia Avenue, Atlantic City, Bob grew up as a proud first-generation American of Italian heritage. His roots were deeply connected to family, tradition, and the cherished culture of his upbringing - values he carried throughout his remarkable life and leaves as a lasting legacy for us.

Bob was a man of quiet brilliance and unwavering kindness. His academic journey began at Rutgers University, where he graduated in 1955 and proudly became a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. A true patriot, he served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, earning the Good Conduct Award (no surprise!), and continued his service in the Reserves until 1961. He later achieved a Master's degree in Physics from Drexel University, a testament to his lifelong passion for mathematics and science.

His professional achievements were as exceptional as his personal character. Bob began his career at the General Electric Company in West Philadelphia, contributing to groundbreaking advancements in ballistic missile systems during a pivotal time in aerospace development. In 1959, he joined the National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center (NAFEC), which later became the FAA Technical Center. For over 38 years as a civil servant, he advanced aviation safety and innovation, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. After retirement, Bob shared his expertise as an adjunct professor at Atlantic Cape Community College, mentoring countless students with his mathematical prowess and legendary patience.

On July 18, 1964, Bob married the love of his life, Patricia E. McGinniss, "Paddy." Their marriage was a shining example of love, dedication, and partnership, spanning over 60 years. Together in Ventnor, they built a life centered around their five children and an ever-growing family of grandchildren. PopPop was a steadfast caretaker, always ensuring his family felt loved and supported.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Paddy; his children: Denise Gallagher (Danny), Karen DiMeo, Robert E. DiMeo, Christopher DiMeo (Steve DeLuca), and Tricia Bradberry (Kevin); his 13 cherished grandchildren, three bonus grandchildren, and his first great-granddaughter. He also leaves behind his brother, Richard DiMeo; his sister, Marie Vola; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. He is predeceased by his parents, Filomena and Vincent; his beloved sister, Evelyn; and his cherished grandson, Dean, who now welcome him into Eternity.

Bob's faith was the cornerstone of his life, grounding him in love and service to others. His legacy of kindness, devotion, and unwavering faith will live on through the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors at woundedwarriorproject.org in Bob's honor, supporting a cause that aligns with his lifelong values of service and dedication.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 17th, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the St. James Church, 6415 Atlantic Ave., Ventnor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., followed by a burial with military honors, at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing.

Arrangements by the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home Ventnor – Linwood, condolences can be extended to the family at ghwimberg.com.

It is with great sadness to learn of Bob's passing. I worked with Bob at the Tech Center. Beyond any doubt, he was a true gentleman! Such a nice, very intelligent guy that will be missed by many. None more so than his loving family. May you rest in peace Bob.
