Max Ferdinand Hentz

NEW IBERIA - Memorial services for Max Ferdinand Hentz of Lafayette, 87, will be held at 4 p.m. Monday January 30, 2012 at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in New Iberia, with interment at a later date in Briviesca, Spain.

Rev. Canon Larry Wilkes will officiate.

A visitation at the church hall will start at 2:30 p.m.

A native of Ann Arbor, Mich. and a resident of Lafayette for 33 years, Mr. Hentz died Wednesday January 25, 2012 following a brain aneurysm.

Mr. Hentz was a graduate of the University of Michigan where he received bachelor's and master's degrees in geology.

He began his career in the oil business in Lake Charles and ended it in Lafayette. He worked for many years overseas, starting in Venezuela where he met Teofila "Teo" Cuesta of Burgos, Spain to whom he was married for 45 years prior to her death in 2000. He also worked in Libya, Spain, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Australia and Gabon.

Mr. Hentz loved puttering around in his workshop, any sort of woodworking project and doing jigsaw puzzles.

He is survived by two daughters, Gladys Hentz Chapman, and her husband Will, of New Iberia, and Nancy Hentz Delfos, and her husband Ernest, of Milan, Italy; and four grandsons, Adam Chapman of Lafayette, Daniel Chapman of New Iberia, Justin Delfos of Milan, Italy and Mitchell Delfos of Milan, Italy. He is also survived by his brothers, Gary Hentz and wife Pat, of Ann Arbor, Mich, and David Hentz and wife Kathy, of Pinkney, Mich. He had an older brother, Jack, who was killed in action during World War II.
