Former 3rd Ward Councilman, Steven L. Moore (1943-2024), 81, of Atlantic City, NJ, departed this life and into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. A service to celebrate Steve's life will be held: Friday, November 15, 2024, at 1 p.m., Beacon Evangelical Free Church, 420-6th Avenue, Galloway NJ 08205.

The family welcomes donations to Community Resource Services, P.O Box 1943, Atlantic City, NJ 08404, in lieu of flowers, honoring Steve's lifelong support of education and community enrichment.

Steve was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey to Mary E. (nee Walker) & Lloyd Moore on September 15, 1943. The first of three children born into this union. He would have preferred to have been the only child, but after 50 or so years he came to accept his younger siblings.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Bloomfield College, Steve works as a social worker for the New York Department of Juvenile Justice-New York Youth House, followed by a lengthy career with the New York Department of Social Service. Always wanting to teach and encourage youth to pursue higher education he served as the Assistant Director for a tutoring program at eh Staten Island Community College as a counselor for at-risk male youth at Mt. Loretto Orphanage in Staten Island.

When Steve relocated back to Atlantic City, he provided holistic and individualized support to youth requiring services, as a supervisor with the Crisis Residential Program at the Covenant House of New Jersey. Before becoming a member of city council, Steve served as supervisor of the Housing Preservation and Development committee. He enjoyed teaching. He taught an English class at Mainland Christian School, he also taught children attending the Junior High Sunday School at First Baptist Church. Steve loved to sing and was a member of the First Baptist Church Choir, where he was also chairperson of the missionary committee.

Perhaps Steve was better known as a familiar face of Atlantic City Peacekeepers, as well as volunteering at the Atlantic City Peacekeepers 1 Hour of Power Community Patrol and training. One of his proudest accomplishments was servicing Atlantic City's 3rd Ward as Councilman. As councilman Steve worked closely with Steven Young to advance the needs and concerns of his neighbors and constituents of Atlantic City's 3rd Ward.

Steve is preceded in death by his loving parents, Mary and Lloyd Moore, and his brother Michael Moore. He leaves to mourn his passing: Sister, Kathy Gallagher; Cousins, Sybil Ward, Sylvearl Polite, Yvonne Preston; Brother By Choice, Steven L. Young; Nieces, Eillene "Pumpkin" Moore & Shalini Basu; Nephews, Stacey & Steven Gallagher; 2nd Cousins, David & Gail Preston, & Jason Edwards; Great Nephews, Kamau-who was like his son, Shaquan, Anthony, Asanti, & Blake; Great Nieces, Lydia, Esperanza, Simone-who was like his daughter, & Isabella; Sister-in-law, Deborah Moore; Niece-in-law, Linda; Great Nephew-in-law, Linden Bryant; and a host of other family members and cherished friends.

The family would like to thank all of Steve's hospice staff at Virtua Voorhees Hospital who took great care of him, as well as our sincere gratitude to all who have been a blessing to Steven and the family during this time.

Steven L. Moore was the founder of a nonprofit organization, Community Resource Services Inc., which provides services to at-risk youth and families. When I think of Stevie I am most reminded of the tremendous LOVE and various types of support that he gave to his great nephew, Kamau, and his great niece, Simone. He was adamant that they receive a Christian-centered education. May he receive his reward in Heaven for the wonderful community work and organizing that he did and how he touched the lives of so many youth during his lifetime. My heart is with my dear friend, his sister, Kathy, Steve Young (who was like a brother), and all of the family. Blessings to the Peacekeepers chapters.
