Thomas Monaghan Obituary

MONAGHAN, THOMAS E., SR. 70 - of Roxborough, PA, and Ocean City New Jersey, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Roxborough Memorial Hospital. The beloved husband of Mary (nee Mason) and father of Thomas, Jr., Gregg, and Susan Williams, grandfather of Linda Marie, Mary Pat, and Shane Connor, brother of Hugh, Robert and John, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was an account executive for fifty years for WFIL, WUSL, and Power 99 - all in the radio communications field. Proud of his Irish heritage he initiated the city-wide Irish Stew Cook-off followed by restaurant competitions in cooking chili and later ribs, all of which became annual events. Following in his father's footsteps he graduated from St. Joseph College. He was a veteran, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sons of St. Patrick, Radio Broadcasting Association, and a yachtsman. Services and interment are at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Robert P. Monaghan Funeral Home.

I had the extreme pleasure and privilege to know and work with Tom at WFIL Radio. Tom was indeed a real gentleman, in the most truest sense of the word. In fact, he was one of the nicest and most genuine individuals that I have worked with in my 30 years in the broadcasting industry! I last saw Tom at the Pop Explosion Anniversary Party on September 16, 2006. In true Tom Monaghan fashion, and as always, he was the life of the party! I wish to extend my deepest and sincerest sympathy to Tom's family. Tom, may you rest in peace and eternal happiness, old friend.

I met Tom in 1974. We worked together on the WFIL reunions over the years and we became close friends. I will miss him terribly. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He was always positive. Truly one-of-a-kind. R.I.P. my friend, Senator Monaghan.

I worked with Tom for fifteen years
and each and every day he would say "Top O' the Morning to you!"
and when he walked into a room he would say "All Rise" Tom was always a warm and kind man with a great sense of humor... He will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
