WALTER L. COLLETTE

COLLETTE, WALTER L. 109 - was born in Atlantic City, the son of the late Rev. Thomas E. Collette, Sr., and Mrs. Maggie A. Collette. He departed this life on Monday, September 2, 2013. He attended local public schools and Atlantic Community College. He received his high school diploma through testing at Temple University. He attended Anti-Aircraft and Guided Missile school, the Artillery School, and the New Jersey State Military Academy. He attended courses in community relations, Police Administration for Executives, hostage negotiations, bomb disposal, and security for housing, personnel, hotels and motels. Collette spent twenty-one years in the Atlantic City Police Department, retiring as Captain, & thirty-two years in the Armed Forces Reserves retiring as a Commissioned Officer. He served eleven years as Chief of Security, Atlantic City Housing Authority; three years as a State Hospital Rate Setting Commissioner; and ten years as a City Councilman, serving as Council President for five years. He had served as the Chair-man of the Board of the Atlantic City Arts Center, and lastly served as Chairman of the Zoning Board for Atlantic City. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, having served as Church Treasurer, Trustee, and Chairman of the Trustee Board; Business Administrator, and Vice President of Vision 2000, CDC. He was the recipient of many awards and commendations. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two children and six of his brothers and sisters. He leaves to mourn: his wife of 61 years, Henrietta; two children, DLynn and DeCarlo; two grandchildren, Tamarraw and Shantell; his great grandson and main man, KaiRee Parker; a step-grandson, Wesley Hodge (Felicia); one brother, James M. Collette (Audrey); Godson, Michael Dabney; Goddaughter, Charmaine Washington; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Services will be held 11AM Friday, September 13, 2013, at Second Baptist Church, 110 Rev. Dr. I. S. Cole Plaza, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 9AM. Interment in Lincoln Memorial Park, Mays Landing. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer's Association and the American Heart Association.
