William McGready Obituary

McGready, William "Bill", - 72, of Galloway, passed away at home on July 3rd. Bill was born in Philadelphia and attended the Berklee College of Music. He was a well-known and respected musician who played, arranged, conducted, and sang in the tri-state area. He played for many local artists. Bill conducted and played "The Rat Pack" show at The Sands Casino, and also played and conducted for the late Joan Rivers when she worked in Atlantic City. In earlier years, he toured the UK with a Big Band Glenn Miller show. He was a staple and Steve and Cookie's Restaurant. Bill was the music minister at Holy Trinity Parish in Longport. He taught piano at Blessed Sacrament and St. Phillips school. Bill also played and conducted several musicals at Holy Spirit High School. He played in the Navy Band where he served aboard the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War. He was a proud veteran. Bill is predeceased by his mother Claire and father William Senior. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Janet C "Mousie" who he first met while he was a year old and Janet an infant. Their late mothers were best friends from the time they were 13 years old. No doubt this was destiny! He is also survived by his brother John (Karin Rex); his sisters Margaret Hickey (Jim) and Eileen; several nephews and nieces; also surviving is his good friend and work colleague Claire Collins. Bill was a proud 39 year member of the "Bill W." Club. Bill was a fighter. He fought a long hard, courageous battle with cancer. While it stole his body, it could not steal his soul. Bill was a man of worth. May you be playing your heavenly piano, doing what you loved most, while your little beloved dog Angel sits curled up in your lap. Forever missed, forever remembered.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am on Monday, July 12th at Holy Trinity Parish: Blessed Sacrament Church, Ventnor Ave., Margate. Arrangements by the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, Linwood – Ventnor. Condolences may be extended to the family at ghwimberg.com

I still think of Bill often. I remember how great he was as my Musical Director at Harrah's Atlantic City but I'm glad I can listen to his beautiful talent when I simply hear my recordings on the streaming services. Most of the keyboards/Synth sounds is Bill playing them. His music lives.

Saddened by this news I would like to extend my condolences and deepest sympathies to Bill`s family and wife Janet Mcgrady I would also like to share my thoughts and feelings about my friend Bill.

Bill and I shared the stage many times together and I was so blessed by his talents and friendship, not to mention his sense of humor. One of the great things about Bill was he spoke his mind and he really believed in integrity, honesty and the constitution. You always knew where Bill stood. I liked that!

Bill´s piano style was very unique and he really could make a piano talk with bluesy and gospel undertones, it really made me feel like I was part of something spiritual and moving. He also really knew how to put the vocalist in the pocket. The last time we played together was for a Christmas concert a few years ago, coincidentally where his funeral will be held.

Play on my friend till we meet again on the other side.
