Clyde Gilbert Obituary

Clyde Gilbert passed away September 20, 2025 in Preston, Idaho. Clyde was born October 20, 1948 in Preston to Dallas H. Gilbert and Joyce Smith Gilbert. He grew up in Fairview milking cows for his grandparents and working with his dad at Gilbert's Repair. Except for a short time at Moore Business Forms he continued working at the shop until a week before his death.

Clyde's mother said friendliness was always Clyde's greatest attribute, right from the time he first talked. Adults, kids, and dogs gravitated to his special personality.

Clyde was an exceptional high school athlete. He was a four year letterman in football. His senior year he toppled the rushing record by carrying the ball 1563 yards. He was selected as first team high school All-American fullback. He attended BYU one year on a full football scholarship then attended Ricks for a year and Weber for two.

He served in the National Guard. When he was at basic training in Fort Polk Louisiana they discovered signs of surgery from a football knee injury and scheduled him to go home. While he was waiting to go home he maxed every category of physical training except the long distance run.

Clyde married LeeAnn Smith on Groundhog Day 1973. They began dating summer of '69 with Clyde driving his favorite car of all time, a red '66 Olds 442. Clyde and LeeAnn had much fun together in all the years to follow. Some of their activities included camping, motor cycling, snowmobiling, waterskiing, golf and tennis. They traveled to Italy, Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean and various US cities. Clyde got his pilot's license. He was a certified scuba diver. He was a member of the Elks lodge for 48 years.

Clyde is survived by his wife, LeeAnn, his mother Joyce, sisters Nancy (Jim) Butterfield and Barbara (Larry) Lewis, a brother Mark (Teresa) Gilbert and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Dallas H. Gilbert.

My husband mark and I had many fond memories with Clyde and Leann from snowmobiling the elks and from Pepperidge farm activities as I worked for many years with Leann
As said by others he was a very charismatic and fun person who will be be dearly missed

I had the opportunity to work with Clyde at Moore Business Forms. We became great friends and enjoyed the time that we worked together there. He was very talented and was as strong as an ox. I soon realized his strength and we always called his name when we had to change plate cylinders. They were heavy, way in excess of 200 pounds. Not a big task for Clyde. He handled them with ease. Wish you well Clyde.
