Creig Paskins Obituary
Creig Paskins, cherished son, husband, father, brother and uncle passed peacefully in his home on June 1st, 2024, after a decades-long battle with cancer.
Born on May 2, 1942, along with his twin brother, Kirk as the third and fourth of five children born to Eugene and Beatrice Paskins of Treasureton, Idaho, Creig often questioned why they decided to go for a fifth when it was clear that they had reached perfection with number four. Growing up on the family farm, Creig spent his days doing chores and causing trouble, and while he claimed that he wasn't the troublemaker of the family, the glint in his eyes gave him away. It was a poorly-kept secret in the family that Creig was his mom's favorite - at least that's what he recalled. As such, he became the keeper of her recipes, including her world-famous chocolate pie with homemade crust, and became a great pianist under her tutelage.
In later years, Creig admitted to starting fights with others simply because he knew his twin was bigger and wouldn't hesitate to knock heads together. But he was also able to hold his own if the situation called for it. As co-owner of the Old Mill Disco Bar from 1975-77, he decided to pick a fight with the city over its ban on dancing on Sundays. This fight was decided in court, with Creig and the Old Mill as victors.
In 1975, Creig met the love of his life, Harold Young, and they built their life together in Ogden for almost 49 years. Although a reluctant activist, he fought hard for equal treatment under the law for the LGBTQ community. When the Supreme Court ruled Utah's ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional, they immediately went to the County Building and waited in line for hours to get that small piece of paper that made it official, although in their hearts they were already married. After retiring from the Defense Depot, Creig spent a lot of his time volunteering in the community, including 16 years as a greeter at McKay Dee Hospital where you would always find him with a smile on his face asking how you were doing this fine day. Creig made friends wherever he went, including the women at McKay Dee who called themselves "Creig's Girls".
His favorite time of the year was Halloween, and he spent untold time and money making their home a "must-see" for trick-or-treaters each year. Very few Octobers passed when the house was not lit up with scary ghosts, goblins and spiders hanging from the branches.
Creig's legacy is that of a life well-lived, well-laughed and well-loved. A life full of excitement, travel, generosity of spirit, and terrible dietary decisions as he's likely the last person we'll ever know that would choose liver and onions over pizza and ice cream.
Creig was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Beatrice Paskins, sister LaNee Paskins, and Kirk (Jean) Paskins of Preston; Terry (Jerry) Paskins and Linda (Mac) McFarland of Ogden. He is survived by his husband and partner of 49 years, Harold Young of Ogden, brother Mac Paskins (Teri) of Overton, Nevada; and his adopted son, Grant (Sammi) Willborn, as well as countless nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to join us in a Celebration of Life on August 10, 2024, beginning at 4 pm at his home at 1436 Marilyn Drive in Ogden. For extended obituary and to RSVP, no later than Aug. 5. please visit Kramer Family Funeral Home website.
