Jerry will be missed. He was always great company on our many outdoor adventures. He was always generous and kind. He had the common touch to be friendly to everyone. I'm thankful he was my friend.

I had the honor and pleasure of knowing Jerry and being a business colleague for the past 30 years. Jerry was a kind, wise, trusted, and generous partner who will be deeply missed. He had a zest for life, for learning, for being a mentor, and for assisting others. He was a brilliant and groundbreaking porphyrin chemist whose knowledge and skill have benefited humankind through his development and production of light activated compounds, synthetic porphyrins, derivatives of chlorophyll, and heme. Our love and heartfelt condolences to Lila, other family, and friends of Jerry.

Jerry was my first graduate student and he was so bright and insightful. He was quiet and very smart. I continued to be impressed with his contributions and ability to solve scientific problems.
I also valued him as a friend. It was so nice to be with him several years ago when we were in Logan. I found then that he obviously continued to make valuable contributions in his field.
And our sons still remember how he took them fishing near Logan. One of my favorite pictures of him was taken after one of his fishing trips and showed him holding a very big fish. He did love his fishing trips and was very successful.
While our connections were not often, I still value him as my first and very talented student and as a special colleague.
I am sure he will be missed by many and I count myself so very lucky to have had him as my student and friend. I send my warmest regards and thoughts of sympathy to his family.

Jerry was always kind to me. He was so brilliant and never lorded it over me, a younger work colleague and friend. He took Stuart and me fishing; once on the first day out in the Spring. Stuart was a normal fishing companion. I was not. I read a book. Great day.
He introduced me to his uncle Howard, who was pretty fabulous.
Went to Lake Powell a couple times in the early Spring on a work extravaganza. So fun.
I will miss Jerry.
Dear Lila. May your sorrow be lessened with happy memories of events with Jerry and the love you receive from friends.
How fortunate to spend time with Jerry; smart; funny; interesting; adventurous; kind; and a true renaissance man.
Much love to you.

Jerry was my half brother I never knew I had for years. So grateful for the time I had with him when we connected, no fault of our own. He was a great guy with a very loving wife Lila who took great care of him. Loved Jerry and Lila. So sad he is gone. He did great things on research during his life he didn´t get credit for.

Jerry was my brother-in-law for 32 years and I loved him every single year of it. He was quiet at family functions but I'm sure thats because we are a loud crazy family. Jerry was a very smart guy who knew lots of things and kept us on our toes. He will be missed in our family gatherings but as the family knows he loved his mashed potatoes and we will make sure that those mashed potatoes keep coming.
