Jesse Johnson Obituary

On 27 January 2025, our husband, father, and grandfather, Jesse Lamb Johnson Jr., passed from this life. Jesse was born December 3, 1937, at his parents' home in Preston, Idaho, to Beatrice Thomson Gilbert and Jesse Lamb Johnson. He was the youngest child of his parents and the only boy, with four older sisters.

He later purchased that home and farm, which he grew up on, from his parents. He spent almost his entire life living on that farm. He was fond of saying that he slept in the same room he was born in.

On June 3, 1960, he married Alvona Nielson. Four children were born to that union. They were later divorced. He married Tamra Hawkes on March 1, 2008.

He served in numerous capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including scoutmaster, member of the bishopric and ward mission leader. Additionally, he served a service mission with his wife Tamra on a church farm in Dayton, Idaho, for a period of time.

He was employed at Franklin County Grain Growers for many years and retired from there. In addition, he served on the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District Board.

He enjoyed farming, ranching, hunting, camping and horses. He also enjoyed watching things grow, whether it was cattle, crops or people.

He is survived by his wife, Tamra; his children, Jesse Nielson Johnson, Mackay, Idaho; Roxie (Blake) Crouch, Willard, Utah; Julie (Allen) Hilton, Arlington, Texas; Blake (Tara) Johnson, Preston, Idaho; 16 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; and sisters Utahna and BeBe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Paden Johnson; and by two sisters, Patricia and Barbara.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Franklin County Transitional Care Center for the fun, friendly and exceptional care they offered to Jesse.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Preston 5th ward Chapel, 213 S. 200 E. Preston, Idaho. Viewing will be held prior to the funeral Friday from 9:30-10:30 am at the church. Interment will be in the Franklin Idaho Cemetery.
