Lynn Atkinson Obituary

Lynn William Atkinson, 90, was born 23 August 1933 in Clarkston, Utah to William Thomas Atkinson and Edna Schvaneveldt Atkinson. He was the third child of four. He lived in Clarkston at the family home and he attended Clarkson Elementary and North Cache High School.

Lynn farmed with his father as a young boy and he remembered his mother cooking for the farm hands. He worked hard on the farm especially after his older brother went into the service. He farmed using horses and a tractor.

Even though he worked hard he still had time for play. He would often be seen driving over the mountain to Garland, Utah. He met his companion and dated Claire Hall. They were married November 30, 1951 in the Logan Utah Temple.

Lynn worked at various jobs and on different farms after they were married. They bought a farm in Clifton, Idaho where they raised six children. The farm started out 80 acres but grew through the years. He started out with a 200 International tractor and plowed with a one bottom roll over plow. Things were tough for a while.

Lynn worked at Thiokol for 10 years while he was working the farm and milking the cows. He got very little sleep. He would start milking at 3 am and then go to work all day and come home to help with the milking, work on the farm and irrigate until he was too tired. He would then sleep a couple of hours and start all over again.

If we wanted to spend time with dad we would go to the fields in the middle of the night where he was flood irrigating his crops. As we grew, he tried to find time to spend at our school activities. He hardly took vacation but when he did, we would go and visit family.

He later sold the family farm in Clifton and moved to Preston due to his health issues. But farming was in his blood so he found friends and family who needed help and worked with them.

Lynn worked hard all of his life to provide for his family. He held many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked in the mutual program for years; he was a financial clerk for many years; served in the bishopric as a counselor and as a high councilor in the stake. His greatest calling was when he and Claire served as temple workers in the Logan Utah Temple. Lynn spent many hours serving others. He loved helping others.

He was loved by family and friends and all who knew him. He is survived by his children; Alleen Fish, Preston, Idaho; Blaine (Brenda) Atkinson, Moreland, Idaho; Ronald (DeAnn) Atkinson, Dayton, Idaho; Sharlene Atkinson, Preston, Idaho; Scott (Jana) Atkinson, Smithfield, Utah and Jay (Theresa) Atkinson, Preston, Idaho. He is also survived by a brother, Rex Atkinson, Lehi, Utah as well a sister-in-law, Marilyn Atkinson, Clarkston, Utah and by 23 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

We would like to thank Dr. David Beckstead and the FCMC Hospice Team. We would especially like to thank the Heritage Senior Living Center and the staff for all you did for our father. Lynn loved you and the special care each of you gave to him.
