Troy McNEtt Obituary

Troy Bart Gneiting McNett aka STUMPY, cherished hubby, father, son, brother, and proud grandpa, 58, of Ammon, Idaho, passed away unexpectedly on February 10, 2025. Born on November 10, 1966, Troy joined his two older siblings, Rhett and Scarlett. Yes, his mother Sherry Massengale LOVED "Gone With The Wind" and he was almost named Ashley, but we think his dad, Floyd Gneiting might have had a say about that! They ended up using famous quarterback Bryan "Bart"lett Starr as their inspiration instead, something Troy was grateful for later when Ashley became a popular "girl's" name. His early years were spent in Roberts, Idaho, and his sister Sheirah, joined the family two years later. He loved playing with his close cousins and hanging out with his "Great Grams" Dudley Massengale. When his mom married Jami McNett, the family moved to Ammon, Idaho, where his younger siblings Darren, Michael and Cretia finished off the team. Troy loved camping and scouting and his dad often had the entire summer planned out for the family. 50 milers (biking), fishing, hunting, and anything outdoors. This love was passed down to his own children. He attended Bonneville High School where he excelled at both soccer and wrestling. One day, while running laps inside the school, he had no idea he was being watched. Two young girls were randomly picking out complete strangers and making a bet to see who could get their "pick" to ask them out first. Needless to say, Tami won. On April 25, 1986, Troy & Tami were sealed for time & all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple.Troy attended Eastern Idaho Technical College, earning a Certification of Applied Science, which he applied throughout his 30-year career as a dedicated Radiation Safety Technician at the Idaho National Laboratory.

Troy & Tami were blessed with six children, four beautiful daughters and two handsome sons: Jaysie, Katelyn, Caleb, McKensie, Chelsea, and Isaac. Just a tip, when you have all of your kids just two years apart, they DO NOT get to play on the same sports teams!!Throughout their 40 years of adventures together, the family moved several times (Tami was secretly a gypsy and Troy was a good boy!), finally landing in Ammon, Idaho, but loving the Cache Valley area just as much.Troy is survived by his wife, Tami; his children, Jaysie (Ray) Virgilio, Katelyn (Reed) Guisinger, Caleb (Anna) McNett, McKensie (Austin) Schiffman, Chelsea McNett (single and looking ), and Isaac (Megan) McNett; and cherished grandchildren, Andilynn, Christopher, Haizelee, Sophie, Luci, Henry, Maverick, Luxtynn, Tommy, and Charlotte. Troy was preceded in death by his mother, Sherry McNett; father, Floyd Gneiting; father-in-law David Chase; Stepsister, Holly Wymer; Grandparents, Jennie & John Gneiting, Ralph & Dudley Massengale, and LaVerne & Arlene McNett. We are celebrating Troy's life on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ammon Stake Center located at 2055 S. Ammon Road, Ammon, Idaho 83406. While the service will be short and sweet, exactly how Troy wanted it, we invite everyone to join us immediately afterward for food, hugs and a chance to share your favorite memories. Troy stole one of my best friends! lol, Actually , I was happy to give her to him! What a beautiful legacy Troy has left behind with his Wife,Children and Grandchildren. We shared a lot of laughs in our younger years. Although we didn’t stay as close as we should of over the years, We always seemed to check in at the Outer banks or Island park. May everyone hold on to the wonderful memories that were shared and find comfort that families are forever. Rest in Peace Troy, and much love and prayers of comfort to his loved ones.

We all liked and admired Troy from the first time we met him.
We've known him and I worked with him for many years. He was always friendly and helpful. We never got to pay him back for all he did for us. Our hearts are with you and yours.
