Alberta Proctor Gearhart, known by all as Bert, of Woodbridge, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025 at her home.

Bert was born on December 20, 1944 in Wilson, North Carolina, to Albert H. and Annie Rosa Proctor. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from The University of North Carolina in Greensboro and a Masters of Education from George Mason University. Bert taught school in North Carolina, in Germany at the Department of Defense School in Erlangen, at Minnieville Elementary School and Westridge Elementary School in Manassas until her retirement in 2002.

Bert enjoyed traveling the world and playing bridge, she was an avid bird watcher and carefully tended and nurtured her yard. Her devotion and care can be best seen in the relationships she kept with the life-long friends and family she loved. Bert was a resident of Westminster at Lake Ridge for the last two years where she was active in reading, exercise, birdwatching, flowers and decorating, and resident communications groups.

Bert was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Rosa Proctor, and her companion of many years, Ralph Magnus. She is survived by her sister Victoria "Vicki" (James), her nieces Vicki Lynne (John), Valerie (David, deceased), and Vera (Brian); her great-nephews William (Kristin), Robert, and Alex, and great-niece Debra; and great-grandnephews Samuel and Thomas and great-grandniece Madeline; and the circle of friends who were her Virginia family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 2:30 p.m., at the Chapel at Westminster at Lake Ridge. Bert was a supporter of a wide range of charitable causes, so in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice.
