Andrew Harvell Obituary

On Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, God heard a cry from Mr. Andrew L. Harvell, affectionately known as "Tokey" of 111503 Chantilly Lane, Mitcheville, Md., and responded with opened arms. Andrew passed away at his home without saying goodbye.

During his early years, he confessed his life to the Lord and joined the Providence Baptist Church in Prince George. He received his early education from Reams Elementary School in Reams, and Disputana High School in Disputanta. Andrew's educational background included his God given talent in art, drawing, painting and designing. He studied at Bowie University where his focus was on art and interior decorating. Andrew wanted to go further so he served in the United States Army for five years.

He was the owner of The Dura-Cleaning Company for more than 50 years, where he sold, installed, and cleaned carpets and upholstery. Andrew's business was featured in the Washington Post newspaper on several occasions for having one of the most outstanding services in the Washington-Metro area. Some of his clients to name a few: the White House, the Blair House, and Washington International Airport. Needless to say he loved to entertain his lady friends and family.

He was preceded by: his parents, Clarence and Lucille Harvell; brother, Stanley R. Harvell, and niece, Sharia Harvell.

Andrew leaves a wife, Beatrice Harvell of Conyer, Ga.; two devoted sisters, Gilda H. Pegram of Petersburg, and Gertrude M. Harvell of Prince George; two nephews both very special to him, Troy A. Pegram of Petersburg, and Stanley R. Harvell of Prince George; a great-niece, Tia Jones-Mitchell (Ray) of Chesterfield; a great-great-nephew, Jailen I. "the Man" Jones of Chesterfield; two stepsons, Kosi Mncuve of South Africa and Chaka Mncuve of Washington; stepgranddaughter, Malika White of Washington; several cousins to name a few, Violet Wright of Hopewell; Angeline Brown of Virginia Beach; Beatrice Goode of Chesterfield, Leo Wright, Ann Pierce, Denice Wright, and Zernest Wright, all of Petersburg, and Otis Goode of Carson, and a host other relatives and friends.

He leaves also leaves: his secretary of 29 years, Ms. Vera Morton, and two willing helpers, Tyrone Cox and Jerome "Pipe" Cooper, all of Washington.

Services for Mr. Andrew L. Harvell will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, the Rev. Dr. George W.C. Gilda & Gertrude

Sorry to hear of your loss. Andrew will truly be missed but I hope the following words bring you some comfort:

God looked around his garden
And He found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this earth,
And saw your tired face.

He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.

He saw that the road was getting rough.
And the hills are hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered "Peace be thine".

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone
For part of us went with you
That day that God called you home
