On Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, Mr. Calvin Arthur Trisvan, 78, of 20305 Sheffield Place, South Chesterfield, Va., passed away peacefully at the River View on the Appomattox Nursing Home, Hopewell, Va., after a long period of declining health.
Calvin was born on June 17, 1933, in Sussex County, Va., to the late John Wesley Trisvan and Bernice Gilliam Trisvan. Calvin attended the Sussex County Public Schools and was very conscientious and dedicated worker and achiever. He was as unusual utilitarian and was often known as the "Fix It Man." Even though he was a stutterer, he could always get your attention.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Marcellus Trisvan, Theron Trisvan, John Smallwood Trisvan and Lawrence Trisvan, and one sister, Dorothy Trisvan Jones.
Calvin was a lover of people and enjoyed many indescribable moments with them. Thoroughly, he took great pride in being a member of the Genesis Lodge #89, A.F. and A.M., and being an avid gardener and fisherman. He retired from Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1996 after 25 years of service and returned home, where he enjoyed family and friends.
Calvin was a member of the Unity Baptist Church, 330 South St., Petersburg, Va., where he was a dedicated and committed usher and member of the Trustee Board.
He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Geneva, whom he married in 1995; two sons, Alvin Trisvan (Tabitha) of Simpsville, S.C., and Chris Trisvan (Pat) of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two daughters, Regina Beaufort and Carolyn Singleton, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one stepson, David Turman (Trina) and one stepdaughter, Darlene Davis, both of Saint Albans, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-granddaughter, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sisters, Miriam Gerald of Colonial Heights, Va., Ruth Mae Marshall and Evelyn Hampton (Otis), both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Ruby Lee Lyles (James) of Columbus, Ga.; two brothers, Harold Edward Trisvan and Gilbert Trisvan (Eleanor), both of Petersburg, Va.; a special friend, Brother Albert Dukes of the Walnut Hill area, Petersburg, Va.; and former co-workers of Kings County Hospital, Eugene Williams and Brother Wesley Epps of Ettrick, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family extends special thanks to the River View Nursing Home Hospice for the care given to Calvin for the numerous months that he was in their care.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Unity Baptist Church, 330 S. South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Albert L. Toney, pastor emeritus, eulogist. The interment to follow in the Trisvan Family Cemetery, Jarrett, Va.
The family will friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012, at the funeral establishment.
Honorary and active pallbearers are asked to assemble 10:30 a.m. at the church the day of the services.
