Carol Booth Obituary

Mr. Carol Bernard "Peck" Booth, of 24904 Black Branch Road, in Stony Creek, Va., entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at his residence after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's and leukemia.

He was born on April 11, 1936, to the late Lawrence Washington Booth and Dorcas Moody Booth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Lowery Booth; two siblings, Marguree Booth Matthews and Maj. Lawrence Randolph Booth, United States Army. Mr. Booth received his education in the Dinwiddie County school system. He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve, proudly serving from Nov. 18, 1962, to Aug. 13, 1983. He was employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia (Southside Virginia Training School and Central State Hospital, Petersburg, Va.), from which he retired on May 1, 1995, after 33 years of service. He was a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church.

Left to cherish fond memories are two daughters, Gwendolyn B. Wiggins (Decella Allen) of Petersburg, Va., and Muriel B. Augustus of Newport News, Va.; one son-in-law, Deacon George H. Augustus III; three grandchildren, Ashley Cristina Augustus, William Henry Wiggins V (Diedre) and Nicholas Alexander Augustus; two great-grandsons, Jaiden Marley Wimbush-Wiggins and Jamari Louis Wimbush-Wiggins; two sisters, Loretta Crump and Mildred Madkins; six brothers-in-law, James Crump, James Lowery Jr., Preston Lowery, William Lowery, Marvin Lowery and George Matthews; seven sisters-in-law, Marion Newsome, Mabel Butts, Edna Lowery, Minnie "Juliette" Lowery, Gloria Lowery, Peggy Lowery and Barbra Booth; two dear aunts, Eunice Booth Baker and Virginia Booth Garris of Norfolk, Va.; and a number of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and neighbors.

The Booth and Moody families express sincere gratitude to our many relatives, friends and neighbors who have been so faithful over the years with kindness, support and encouragement. We extend a very special, heartfelt thank you to Clinton Parham, an extremely dedicated, caring and compassionate cousin and caregiver for his unwavering devotion. Additionally, we thank the Gentiva Hospice staff and the entire Little Bethel Baptist Church family.

A homegoing service for Mr. Booth will be held at noon Friday July 25, 2014, at Little Bethel Church, 23503 Flatfoot Road, Stony Creek, VA 23882, with the Rev. David L. Banks Sr. officiating. Interment to follow in church cemetery. Family, relatives and friends are asked to assemble at the residence of Mr. Booth at 11 a.m. to proceed to church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jones-Peace Funeral Service, 13013 Park Ave., Stony Creek, Va.
