DAVID BARFIELD Obituary

David E. Barfield, 78, passed away September 16, 2017. He was reunited with his wife of 30 years, Peggy Barfield; and his parents, John and Ammie Barfield. He is survived by his son, Brian Barfield; and a host of friends and family from the Chesterfield Fire Department, where he retired as a Battalion Chief.

Born May 1, 1939, David spent his life as a Chesterfield County resident. He joined the Marine Corps Reserves and served in the 1st Battalion, 10th Marines from 1957 to 1963. He began to serve Chesterfield County as a Volunteer Firefighter at Bon Air Company 4 in 1955, while also working at Southern Bank in Richmond, Va. He began his career with the Chesterfield Fire Department as a Fire Inspector in 1967. Through his years of service, he worked as Fire Marshall in Fire Prevention, and Battalion Chief in Training and Operations, until his retirement in 1998. He still continued his service to the community and future firefighters as a teacher and mentor until 2011. David has left his mark on many friends, family, current and retired Chesterfield Firefighters, EMS and county personnel; but most of all, he left his love, pride and joy in his son, Brian, and those closest to him.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2017, at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Bon Air Baptist Church, 2531 Buford Road. Interment, Dale Memorial Park, 10201 Newbys Bridge Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chesterfield Professional Firefighters Charitable Foundation (www.cpffcf.org).
