Dora Jones Obituary

Dora Elizabeth Jones, affectionately known as "Mother Dora," 92, of 402 Kippax St., Hopewell, departed this life Friday, May 15, 2009, at the Hopewell Convalescent Center.

She was the daughter of Arthur and Emily Jones of Prince George County. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard "Dick" Jones.

"Mother Dora" was a devoted member of Power of Praise Bibleway Church in Hopewell.

She enjoyed singing with the choir and will be missed by all those who loved her.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her six children, Roanell Jones Sr. (Arleen), Jean Shands (Sonnie), Albert, Bobby, Wendell and Larry, all of Hopewell; one brother, Arthur Jones of Hopewell; one stepsister, Shirley Jones of Hopewell (John); stepbrother Horace Phillips of Ettrick; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, friends and church family, among them the devoted Diane Byrd and Estelle Lewis.

The home going service for "Mother Dora" will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Power of Praise Bibleway Church, 343 E. Broadway, Hopewell. Elder James Clarke, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Sinai Community Cemetery in Prince George. Family and friends will assemble at the residence of her daughter Jean at 1807 Trenton St., Hopewell, at 10 a.m. on the day of the service.

Her remains may be viewed from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the Chapel of the Turner-Bland Funeral Home in Hopewell
