Mrs. Gladys Mae Vaughan of 109 Perry Street Petersburg, Virginia, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 17, 2015 ,at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Mary Walker and Clester W. Vaughan of Sussex County. Gladys was a native of Sussex County and was educated in the Sussex County School System.
In her early years, she lived in New York City and was a Laundry Presser. She was later employed as an Elevator Operator in Kings County, New York. Mother Vaughan was also a former member of St. Luke F.B.A. Church, Brooklyn N.Y., under the leadership of Pastor Denise Campbell.
Upon relocating to Petersburg, Va., she joined the Harvest International Full Gospel Baptist Center Inc. under the leadership of Chief Apostle Mary P. Bonner. Mrs. Gladys Vaughan was consecrated as a mother of Harvest Church. She was then oldest mother of the church. Mother Vaughan loved to sing the old gospel hymns. She was faithful member of the Divine Revelation Biblical Miracle School that she attended every Monday night. She attended exercise class and bible study on Wednesday nights as well. Mother Vaughan loved to travel. Everywhere Chief Apostle Bonner and the Harvest members went she was there. Mother Vaughan loved her apartment and would often tell everyone ""I have the prettiest apartment in Petersburg."" She also said she wanted her last days to be her best days. Mother Vaughan was truly happy til the day she died.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Mary W. Vaughan and Rev. Clester W. Vaughan; a son, Keith B. Vaughan (""Kenny""); brothers, Robert Lee Vaughan and Elder Leslie Vaughan; and a sister, Alice Vaughan.
Gladys will be missed and remembered by a devoted brother, William H. Vaughan, Sr., of Waverly, Va.; a sister, Lucille Vaughan of Brooklyn N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Mae Vaughan of Waverly, Va.; many nieces and nephews, among them one devoted niece, Fransetta V. Charity of Petersburg, Va.; and one devoted nephew, Larry Vaughan of Macon, GA.; many cousins and friends, including devoted friends, Evangelist Bertha M. Smith of Petersburg, Va., Evangelist Betty Tucker, Pastor Iris Tucker, Mother Joyce Turner and former Pastor, Denise Campbell all of N.Y.; and the loving members of St. Luke F.B.A. Church, Brooklyn, N.Y.; a devoted Pastor Chief Apostle Mary P. Bonner and the Harvest Church family. She also had a special companion her cat ""Tito"", who she loved so very much.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Harvest International Full Gospel Inc., 1017 West Washington St., Petersburg, Va., with Chief Apostle Mary P. Bonner, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, Virginia.
A public viewing will be held Thursday, January 22, 2015, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment.
Remains will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church. The family is requesting that relatives, friends and pallbearers assemble at 10:45 a.m. at the church.
