Glenn Ford
Lexington, NC - Glenn Ford of Lexington, NC passed away at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem on Sunday, July 18th, 2021.
Born in Petersburg, VA on May 4th, 1948, to the late James and Margaret Ford, Glenn was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After graduating from high school, Glenn served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1971, and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Glenn earned a B.S. in Accounting from Virginia State University in 1976, and began his 30 year career with PPG Industries in Pittsburgh, PA that same year. In 1981, PPG transferred Glenn and his family to Lexington, NC.
An active member of his community, Glenn was a member of the Lower Burrell Lion's Club in Pittsburgh, and served on the boards of Habitat for Humanity, the International Management Council of the YMCA, and Family Services of Davidson in Lexington. Glenn was also a Benefactor of the United Way of Lexington for several years. He enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and recreational league basketball in Arcadia, and delighted in dressing up as Frosty the Snowman for the annual PPG Family Christmas party, a role he played for over a decade.
Glenn was a dedicated sports enthusiast. His athletic pursuits included karate, tennis, basketball, softball, bowling, and golf. As a spectator, he enjoyed basketball, golf, baseball, and track and field. Last but not least, Glenn was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, a pastime he shared with his wife and children.
Family poker was a longtime favorite activity during trips to Virginia, and in recent years, Glenn enjoyed attending the Ford-Evans Family Reunion in Tennessee.
Glenn leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Rithia Franklin Ford, his two children, Monica and Franklin, and two beloved grandchildren, Miles and Mariel. Glenn taught his children and grandchildren many life lessons, including the traditional family salute. They will continue to use it amongst themselves in his fond memory.
Also left behind to cherish his memory are his siblings Gloria Brown (Chester) of Macon, GA, Margie Baker, Lucy Blake (Joseph), Herbert, Robert, Joseph (Sharron) and June Ford, all of Petersburg, VA, his in-laws Nathaniel and Ettora Elliott of Suffolk, VA, brother-in-law George P. Franklin of Silver Spring, MD, sister-in-law Jennie Franklin of Warrenton, NC, son-in-law Adam Ringel, niece Ann Franklin, nephews Rick Elliott, George A. Franklin, and Tony Franklin, as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, July 28, 2021 in Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury NC 28144.
