Jayla Epps Obituary

Little Miss Jayla Denise Epps, 3, of 3619 Bison Hill Lane, Raleigh, N.C., went home to be with Jesus on Monday, Aug. 22, 2011.

Jayla loved attending Word of God Christian Daycare, Raleigh, N.C. She also was a faithful worshipper at Raleigh International Church where she cherished her pastor and Mrs. Thornton dearly.

Jayla is survived by her mother, JaVonni T. Epps of Raleigh, and her father, Darrin E. Johnson of Atlanta. She also leaves behind her brother, Darrion Meredith; grandparents Pamela Harris (Michael), Brian Epps Sr. (Robbin), Beverly Johnson, James Johnson; great-grandparents Gwendolyn Davis, Gloria Griffin, Walter D. Epps (Celestine), Carrie Harris, Mr. and Ms. Thurman Massenburg, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cheives; a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Services will be held on Monday, Aug. 28, 2011, at noon at Raleigh International Church, 4020 Capital Blvd., #152, Raleigh, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, please send expressions of love for JaVonni and Jayla to Raleigh International Church, 4020 Capital Blvd, #152, Raleigh, NC 27604.

To the Family of Jayla.....I just want to say that even though I didnt know your daughter or you, I still want to send my sincere condolences to you and your Family....I just read about her in our newspaper here in Virginia....She is so beautiful and my heart aches for you.....Please know that you will see her again oneday and that shes in the arms of Jesus.....A beautiful Lil Angel to watch over all of us.....May God Bless you during this difficult time and give you strength to bear this.....We are all Family through Christ and to you Miss Jayla, throw a lil angel dust down when you get a chance....Bless you all...

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

My heart is aching for your family. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Jayla, but when I saw this beautiful, precious little girl, I just had to end my deepest condolences. JaVonni, God has revealed so much to me today that it's almost overwhelming. One of those revelations was that during Jayla's assigned time with us, she chose to only bond with those who could handle what was going to happen. Many of us knew and loved Jayla with all of our hearts even when we weren't recipients of her undivided attention too often.

You're a wonderful mom. I admire the woman and mother called Javonni Terree Epps. I love you my beautiful niece-daughter. Stay encouraged. I'm just a phone call away.

Sweet, loving, Jayla. It was such a privilege having you a part of our lives. We had some rough times...like when I was pregnant and you didnt want me to keep you and you would cry almost the whole time(lol) and we have had great times...each and every time I saw you. I remember being at your first birthday party and your mommy had us all write you a letter for when you grew up. I remember writing that I knew you were so beautiful. I didnt realize then that you would be an even more beautiful angel now. I miss you so very much and I am so sorry baby girl. I love you. And Renee loves you.
JaVonni, I am so sorry for your loss of Jayla, and of lost time. But you show so much strength. You are an example to what a true relationship with Christ looks like. I know we can not go back, but want you here for the future. I really do love you.
