JULIA KIDD Obituary

Julia Lee Kidd passed away on June 4, 2012, in Tucson, Ariz., after a long illness and hospitalization. She was 71.

She was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Matoaca, Va. We will miss her sparkling eyes, jokes and gentle heart. She was a lover of children and dogs.

Julia loved life and family. She volunteered her free time supporting the Cub Scouts and Webelos. After a divorce, and as a young adult, she became a federal civil servant and worked at Fort Lee, Va. She moved to Sierra Vista, Ariz., in 1978 to work at the U.S. Army Communication's Command in Fort Huachuca, Ariz.

She fell in love with the Southwest, its lore, mountains and canyons. She saw it all in her red 4-wheel Jeep. Julia spent many years coaching the Pony Tail Girls' Softball teams and was able to take them to the National games. Later in her career, she worked for the U.S. Army in Germany and made wonderful friends over lots of beer and schnitzel. Julia returned to Virginia to be close to her mother. After her mother died, she returned to her beloved Southwest and spent the rest of her days in retirement. She had three antique shops over the years and enjoyed finding and selling treasures.

Julia was a creative and skilled stained glass artist. She had her own studio and today has glass creations all over the world. She was also an accomplished woodworker and did shows at Arts-in-the Park and craft shows in Sierra Vista, Ariz., Germany and the East Coast. She moved to Green Valley, Ariz., six years ago because the elevation in Sierra Vista made it difficult for her to breathe. She rarely missed a Diamondback Baseball game.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Collies Everett and Maude Kidd.

She is survived by siblings, Patricia Ann Adams (Kermit) of Florida, Collies E. Kidd III (Pat) of Virginia and Jean Cenac of Arizona. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held in Matoaca, Va. Julia would probably love any donations to your local animal shelter or St. Jude Children's Hospital.

I remember Julia from my softball years. The traveling and hotel rooms, the patience and guidance she showed on and off the field. She was one of the most caring and loving people I knew and always had such a wonderful additude towards life. I have thought of her many times over the years and I will miss her.

We will always remember Julia and Jeannie sharing their trip to Las Vegas with us. We've known Julia since 1969 and she always made us feel welcome. Her whole family are "crown jewels" and we love each and every one of them. We will truly miss her.

Julia worked with my mother, Lucille Johnson, in Fort Lee. She had a beautiful spirit that I remember so well. When I was a teenager she tried to teach me how to play golf - I was probably the only failed project of her remarkable life. You will be remembered and missed, Julia. Rest in peace.

I met Julia in the 60s at Fort Lee. Her Mother was my Boss when I transfered to Finance and Accounting. Both Julia and Maude were two of the sweetest people I have ever met. Julia was always happy. She was so devoted to her Mother. I know she will be missed by both her family and friends.

Julia helped mold a lot of us little girls into young ladies all while teaching to love the game of softball. I have so many fond memories of her on the ballfield, not to mention taking rides in the jeep, spending nights at her house and just listening to her stories and jokes. Rest in Peace Julia and thank you for being the wonderful person/coach/mentor that you have been to us. We love you!

With deepest sympathy to the family during your time of sorrow. Psalms 46:1 says: God is for us a refuge and strength during this difficult time and may God grant you the comfort to endure.

Julia lived across the street from us in Green Valley with her sister Jean. We absolutely loved her spunky personality. She and my husband had the same woodworking interests and talked quite frequently on our driveway discussing different projects. She was forever trying to get my husband to go play poker (he eventually did) with her as he also liked the game. She made us laugh with her witty southern humor. She will be dearly missed.
