Leon Parham Obituary

Deacon Leon Parham Sr., 84, of 16921 Shands Road, Prince George, Va., a faithful servant was called home to rest on Wednesday, March 18, 2010 surrounded by family.

He was born May 24, 1923. to the late Charlie and Laura Parham and preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Louise Parham; four brothers, John A., James, Lincey and Christopher Parham.

Deacon Parham joined Providence Baptist Church at an early age and was very active until his health declined, remaining a loyal member. He was the recipient of many awards from Deacon Ministry, President of the Male Chorus, L.L.L. Senior Circle, Trustee and Deacon Board. Mr. Parham retired from Allied Chemical, Hopewell (Honeywell) with over 25 years of service. His belief was to help anyone since he was blessed with many great skills from pipefitting to electrical. His knowledge and mannerism earned him the utmost respect from the young and old in the surrounding areas. One of his greatest pastimes was having a garden that flourished every year and passed on to his sons.

He leaves to cherish his memories six devoted children, Leon Parham Jr. (Ruth), Jean Johnson (James), Roger Parham (Teena, Caregiver) all of Prince George, Donald Parham (Pamela), Calvin Parham (Cecelia) of Petersburg and Cheryl McZeal of Hopewell; three brothers, Raymond Parham (Earlene) of Hopewell, Clarence Parham of Petersburg, Daniel Parham (Mary) of Ettrick; two sisters, Lillian Wilkins (Horace) Prince George and Elsie Morrison of Rochester, N.Y.; one brother-in-law Garland Myrick (Bernice) of Petersburg, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-nieces, relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the Southside Regional Medical Center and Home Nurses, Crater Hospice and Colonial Heights Convalescent Center. In honor of Deacon Parham, please make donations to Crater Hospice or Providence Baptist Church Scholarship Fund. Please omit food items.

A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Providence Baptist Church with Bishop Marcus Campbell officiating. The entombment will be at Southlawn Memorial Park.

The family will assemble one hour prior to service at 2711 Courtland Road, Prince George, and may be contacted at the above address or by calling 804-732-0948 or 804-733-7963.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg, now serving from three locations.
