MABLE B. WILLIAMS

Mrs. Mable Boothe Williams, 95, of 3301 Brooks Park Drive, Petersburg, Va., departed this life on Monday, July 23, 2012, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va.

Mable was the eleventh child born to the late Claiborn and Elnora Brown Booth in Smithfield, Va., on April 24, 1917. Mable was preceded in death by her late husband, Basil A. Williams, who died on April 24, 2012, and 11 siblings, Carnegie, Robert, Eudora, Clementine, Collett, Frank Arnetta, Samuel, Shirley, Curley and Kenneth.

Mabel was reared in a religious and devoted family. She followed the family pattern in the elementary and high school of Isle of Wight County in Smithfield, Va. She later went to New York City and graduated from Bracietta Central School of Business. She also attended Trophage School of Fashion. She loved sewing and designing clothes and hats. She opened her own boutique called Petite Vanity On Broadway. After moving to Egg Harbor City, N.J., she worked and retired from The Famous Shop in Atlantic City, N.J. When Mabel and Basil moved to Virginia, she joined Gillfield Baptist Church and participated with the Parish Club and the Women's Fellowship.

She leaves to treasure her memories: one sister, Gertie B. Williams; 15 nieces and nephews, one especially devoted nephew, Elmer Godwin; 37 great-nieces and nephews; 52 great-great nieces and nephews; four great-great-great nieces and nephews; and many devoted friends, especially her neighbors, Bill and Mertis Williams, Bert and Shirley McWilliams, Bernard and Pat Parker, Ron and Terry Brown and the Thwetts.

She will be missed by many.

A funeral service will be held noon, Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va., the Rev. Dr. Grady W. Powell Sr., eulogist, and the Rev. Dr. George W.C. Lyons Jr., pastor of Gillfield Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va., officiating. The interment to follow at the Hickory Grove Church Cemetery, Surry, Va.
