MAJOR PATE

Mr. Major Pate, 57, of Hopewell, was called home on August 24, 2018. He was born on February 1, 1961, to the late Andrew Pate, Jr. and Catherine C. Pate.

Major was educated at the Harry E. James Elementary School in Hopewell. He enjoyed cutting grass and helping his friends whenever possible. In his younger days he worked at City Point National Cemetery as a maintenance worker.

He was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Andrew Pate, Sr. and Merdis Pate; brothers, Wayne Bailey, Curtis Pate, Charles Pate, Calvin W. Pate and Greg Pate: sisters, Hallie Sue Meadows, Ernestine Turner, Maxine Hamlett, Jermaine Bailey, Vanessa Bailey-Lanford and Cindy Pate Coleman (Lorenzo).

He leaves to cherish his memory; one sister, Linda Pate Johnson; two brothers, Mark A. Pate and Lonnie Bailey; one sister-in-law, Marzette Pate; one uncle, Garland Pate; nine aunts, Helen Entzminger, Marjorie Pate, Teresa Pate Rogers, Hallie Sue Meadows, Earnestine Turner, Maxine Hamlett, Lacreshia and Clarissa Sandford, Laura Ewell, Sarah Munnerlyn (James); one great-aunt, Mary Elizabeth; 29 nieces and nephews, 45 great nieces and nephews, 7 great-great nieces and nephews; very special friends, Milton Wooden, Lillie and Cecil Jackson; a very devoted family friend, Edward Cotman; and a very special thanks to Garland Pate.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, August 31, 2018, at the chapel of Bland & Tucker Funeral Home, 1500 Arlington Road, Hopewell.
