Marshall Bolden Obituary

On Sunday May 5, 2013, Ms. Marshall "Marie" Bolden was called into eternal rest to wear her golden crown. Ms. Marshall was born to the late Lewis Bailey and Rosa Belle Cheeks on Feb. 29, 1944, and was raised by her foster parents, Lester and Ruth Diggs, all of Waverly.

She attended Sussex County Training School. She was employed as a seamstress at C.W.F. in Colonial Williamsburg for many years until her health began to decline.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory to: four children, one son, Micheal Cheeks of Waverly, three daughters, Marion Davis (Dave) of Waverly, Virginia Ruffin (Kevin) Waverly, and Tomeka Anderson (Gregory) of Lithonia, Ga.; two brothers, Kenny Cheeks (South Carolina), and Leroy Cheeks (New York); one deceased sister, Roberta Cheeks; two foster brothers, Clarence Diggs, Robert Diggs; and foster sister, Barbara Carter, all of Richmond; 11 grandchildren, Jocobie Smith, Jacques Bolden, Sharanda Bolden, Latonia Bolden-Jones, Lena Fulgam, LaNesha Johnson, Jamar Davis, Charmaine Johnson, Dadakia Bolden, Gregory Anderson Jr., and Akeela Anderson; 15 great-children; and a host of nieces; and nephews.

Marie was a faithful member of Union Hill United Church of Christ for many years until her health declined. She was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt. She will be remembered as a loyal friend, with a big smile who opened up her home and gave love to all that entered; famous for her homemade sweets, including homemade ice cream and peanut brittle; giving advice and family history to all that came around. She enjoyed cooking, growing flowers and sewing. She also enjoyed taking trips to visit family in Washington and Louisville, K.Y., for family reunions.

The family would like to acknowledge the Waverly Healthcare & HealthSouth staff; devoted cousin, Helen Welcome; caregiver, Audrey Baines; Mildred Ricks; lifelong friend, and to all that came over called and showed their support in our time of bereavement.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Union Hill United Church of Christ, Sedley, the Rev. Roy Stocks, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Union Hill United Church Cemetery.

A viewing for Ms. Bolden will be held from 1 to 6 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2013, at the funeral home. The family and friends will assemble one hour prior to service at 213 Locust Drive, Waverly.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Peace-Bland Funeral Home, 237 Railroad Ave., Waverly. James I. Gay, manager.

Marion and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I hadn't seen your Mother in years but remember her from our choir days at Easter Baptist. I'll keep your family in prayer.

To my family - with deepest compassion for the lost of dear “Marsha” – a caring and loving cousin who always had a spirit of love for family. May you have comfort in knowing how many people she touched with her kindness and will continue to do so in the loving arms of our Savior.
