MARY GOODWYN Obituary
Mary was born on June 2, 1947, in Dinwiddie County to the late Thomas and Emma Prince. She attended public school in Dinwiddie County and earned an associate of applied science degree in business management from Commonwealth College, Richmond, Va., in 1996, with the honors of Cum Luade.
At an early age, Mary became a member of Refuge Temple Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc., where she was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and filled with the Holy Ghost, under the pastoralship of the late Bishop Floyd P. Hill Sr. Mary was an active and faithful servant of God throughout her 40 years of church membership. She was a member of the Sunday School Department and served as a teacher of the primary Class, a member of the Refuge Temple Choir, vice president of the Women's Council, a member of the Ministers and Deacons Wives' Guild, chair of the church Decoration Committee and chair of the Church Yard Beautification Committee.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Alberta Prince, Lillian Wooten and Dorothy Woodley and two brothers, William and Willie Prince.
She was united in holy matrimony on May 8, 1965, to her dedicated husband of 47 years, John O. Goodwyn. Together they had five devoted children, Crystal L. Goodwyn of Dinwiddie, Va., Timothy N. Goodwyn, Michael A. Goodwyn, Sean E. Goodwyn and Jamal Prince. She was the loving grandmother to three granddaughters, Angelica Crawford, Timara Goodwyn and Jailyn Saunders; one adopted granddaughter, Amber Spencer and one great-grandson, Keilan Crawford.
In addition she leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Angela Prince of Richmond, Va.; three brothers, Algie Prince (Catherine), James and John Prince; four sisters-in-law, Alberta Prince, Glorine King, Gracie Massenburg and Mary Robinson; two brothers-in-law, Herbert Goodwyn (Lucille) and Willie Goodwyn; a goddaughter, Sheaketa burrow and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Special thanks to Arlene Smith, Mattie Briggs, Elsie Johnson and Jailyn Saunders for their attentive and loving care.
A funeral service for Mary J. Goodwyn will be held noon on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Refuge Temple Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc., 1890 Boydton Plank Road, Petersburg, Va. Elder Harry Woodley Sr., eulogist and Pastor Jamar Sanders, officiating. The interment to follow is at Southlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, July 6, 2012 at the funeral establishment.
The family will also receive friends at 1100 Spain Drive, Petersburg, Va., until 8 p.m. and may be contacted by calling 804-861-6858.

Well this year has almost ended.You know it wasn't a day that went by that I didn't think of you.Did you see on your machine I wrote your initals MJ on it.That way you are still working with me everyday. Only you and God knows how much I love and miss you.Who am I gonna call every morning and at 2:30 on my way to work,Sunday night on the phone watching TV together.I have to stop being so selfish.I know where you are right now you wouldn't trade it for nothing in this world.I hope you were able too see your homegoing service.Everybody from Fareva that was their wants to come back to your church. I told them to let me know I will go back with them. You would not believe how there sprits was today they could not stop talking about it. Sabrina said it makes here want to change her Religion. Margaret is gonna tell her husband to let her coworkers plan her funeral.Yo all she kept saying Lord,Lord,Lord I am sure you cans see her saying that.Tim said he felt like getting up and dance.
