Maseline Eldridge Obituary

Mrs. Maseline C. Eldridge, of 335 Shore St., Petersburg, Va., departed her life on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at Golden Living Center (Battlefield Park Convalescent Center), Petersburg, Va.

She was born July 7, 1927, to Eddie and Lucinda Cheives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lee Eldridge Sr.; her son, Russell Eldridge; three brothers, Arthur Cheives, Edward Cheives and John Johnson; five sisters, Mary Brooks, Dorothy Coureton, Helena Jones, Rosetta Cheives and Hibernia Cheives; and a niece, Sadie Rose Johnson Holbert.

Mrs. Eldridge graduated from Peabody High School in 1946 and attended Virginia State College (University). Mrs. Eldridge was employed by Southside Virginia Training Center for 28 years. She was a member of Third Baptist Church, where she served on the George L. Williams Missionary Circle and the Senior Choir.

She leaves to cherish her memory, five children, Arthur Eldridge Jr. (Evelyn) of Macon, Ga., Donald Eldridge (Phyllis), Phyllis Eldridge and Linda Young, all of Petersburg, Va., and Sheila Lane (Roosevelt) of Hopewell, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley Cheives (Cindy) and James Cheives (Lucy), both of Chester Va.; one sister, Judy C Dabney (Jerrod) of Louisa, Va.; aunt, Irene Eldridge; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer St., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Leroy A. Cherry, pastor, officiating. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 335 Shore St., Petersburg, and may be contacted by calling (804) 892-2103 or (804) 586-7711.
