Mr. Michael Jerome Stevens, aka "Turkey," of 20301 Church Road, Ettrick, Va., departed this life on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 27, 1954 to Roger A. and Annie Mae Stevens. Michael accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a junior usher and was member of the junior choir. He also served as a Boy Scout in Pack No. 139 and was a member of the King David Lodge.
Michael was a graduate of Matoaca High School Class of 1973. He was an employee of Virginia Power before working for Chesterfield County School Board. Michael enjoyed hunting.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Roger A. Stevens and Annie Mae Stevens; a brother, Wayne A. Stevens; grandmother, India V. Dodson; three uncles, Charles, James "Papa Jack" and Jonnie Dodson; and two aunts, Helen Dodson and Lenora M. Dodson.
Michael is survived by his son, Randy Williams of Petersburg, Va.; a daughter, Michelle Stevens of Ettrick, Va.; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Jamil and Jaydea Jackson, Jahiem Williams and Zy'Anna Harrison (future granddaughter), all of Ettrick, Va.; a nephew, Wayne A. Stevens Jr. (Aimee) of Richmond, Va.; one great niece and nephew, Aliyah and Zyan Stevens; a sister-in-law, Dianne Stevens; three aunts, Mary Otey of Ettrick, Va., Lorraine Otey of Providence Forge, Va. and Marina Weatherless of Richmond, Va.; one foster uncle, Clarence Thorpe of Ettrick, Va.; and a host of cousins, other relative and friends, several devoted friends, among them Charlie Ellis (like a brother), Lorie Williams, Bonnie White and Cecelia Heath.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at Union Grove Baptist Church, 19111 Church Road, Petersburg, Va., with the Rev. Douglas Harris, interim pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Dodson Family Cemetery.
Honorary and active pallbearers are asked to assemble at 10:30 a.m. at the church.
The family will assemble at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral establishment the day of the services.
