Richard Nicholas Obituary

Mr. Richard Edward Nicholas, 77, of 25403 Greensville Ave., Petersburg, departed this life Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at the Hopewell Health Care Center.

He was born May 28, 1931, to the late IdaBelle and Charlie Nicholas. Richard attended and graduated from Dinwiddie High School. He was employed by Va. Highway Department of Dinwiddie County and later retired from Allied Chemical of Hopewell where he served for over 30 years. Mr. Nicholas was a member of First Baptist Church of West Petersburg. He is preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Rebecca Nicholas of Petersburg; a son, Alphonso Nicholas Sr. (Lynette) of Dinwiddie; two daughters, Thomasine Northrop of Petersburg and Carolyn Brown of Richmond; a sister, Alice Crawley of Petersburg; eight grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces and cousins, a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at First Baptist Church, West Petersburg, with Dr. Peter R. Jeffrey, pastor, officiating. The interment will be at Blandford Cemetery. The family will assemble at the residence, 25403 Greensville Ave., Petersburg, at noon on the day of the service.
