Richard Walker Obituary

Deacon Richard Gee Walker, 92, of 316 Carson Road, Carson, departed this life on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.

He was a native of Dinwiddie County, and was born on Feb. 15, 1918, to the late Marthanna Walker.

Deacon Walker was a member of Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church, Carson, where he was the oldest member. He was employed by Cecil William Lumber Co. for many years and retired in 1962. After retirement he worked for P.B. Halligian Co. until admission to Golden Living Convalescent Center, Battlefield Park in April of 2010.

He was preceded in death by: his wife for over 60 years, Elizabeth Powell Walker; and his sister, Louethel Walker.

Left to cherish his memories are: Deacon Samuel Hunt Jr. (Vernice); Barbara Clark (Bernard), Ann Brown, Rosa Harper of Prince George, Elizabeth Myrick (John), Annabelle Graves, Nell Thomas of Petersburg, Eva Williams, Deacon Samuel Graves of Chesterfield, Juanita Bland of Hopewell, George Hunt, Sr. of Newport News; many devoted friends from the Rising Mount Zion Church family in Carson, Ronnie Brown, Ronald Pecht of Dinwiddie, the Bank of Southside Virginia staff members and the staff of the Golden Living Convalescent Center Battlefield Park, Petersburg.

A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church, Carson, where the pastor, the Rev. David Flemming, will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family is asked to assemble at 11:30 a.m. on the day of the service at the church.
