Roger Pegram Obituary

Deacon Roger Alexander Pegram Sr., of 1748 Halcun Drive, Petersburg, departed this life to eternal life on Monday, April 23, 2007.

He was the son of the late Mrs. Susie Pegram and Mr. George Thomas. He was born in Petersburg, on April 9, 1924. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Doris Davis.

He attended the public schools of Petersburg. Roger served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He received the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged. Roger retired after 34 years of civil service.

He was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, where he served in the following ministries, Deacon Ministry, the choir and the Ushers Ministry for over 50 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 40 years, Mrs. Augusta M. Pegram of Petersburg; three children, Roger Pegram Jr. (Shirley), Curtis Pegram, and Janet "Elaine" Wilkerson; spiritual daughter, Joyce Stallings; five stepchildren, Walter McNear (Ruby), Mary Jones-Brown, Levy Jones III (June), Lemont Jones, Letaz Jones (Avis); three brothers, George Thomas, James Thomas, Cornelius Thomas (Hibernia); one sister, Arnita Walker, of Fayetteville, N.C.; 31 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 S. Crater Road, Petersburg. The Rev. Jeffery L. Reaves Sr., pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1748 Halcun Drive, Petersburg and may be contact by calling (804) 732-6642.
