Ruby Haskins Obituary

Ruby Lee Haskins, formerly of 1329 Hinton St., went to rest on Dec. 12, 2010, at Southside Regional Medical Center. She fought a courageous battle of endurance to the end. She was born May 1, 1930, in Surry County, Va., to George Charity and Alberta Charity.

Ruby married her husband of 40 years, James O. Haskins Sr., on Dec. 25, 1948. They both together symbolized their dedication to Jehovah God by water baptism on Feb. 24, 1973.

Ruby was a faithful worshiper of Jehovah and a disciple of Christ. Her service allowed her to share freely with others her belief in Jehovah's promises. She knew and believed that if she fell asleep in death, she would continue in Jehovah's memory until resurrection.

Ruby was preceded in death by her father, George Charity; her sister, Edith Stringfield; and her beloved husband, James O. Haskins Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Alberta Charity of Newport News, Va.; five sons, Pernell Charity Sr.(Nora) of Surry, Va., Melvin L. Haskins (Linda), James O. Haskins Jr. (Brenda), Myron Haskins (Doorene) and Carroll Haskins (Cynthia), all of Petersburg, Va.; three sisters, Dorothy Butler of Smithfield, Va., Shirley Brown of Newport News, Va., and Alice Jones of Norfolk, Va.; one brother-in-law, Ross Haskins Jr. (Louise); two sisters-in-law, Virginia Edmonds and Elizabeth Newby, all of Southampton County in Virginia; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many, many friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 575 Old Wagner Road, Petersburg, VA.; Brother Thomas Todd officiating. Interment at Bermuda Memorial Park Cemetery in Chester, Va. The pallbearers and friends are asked to assemble at the Kingdom Hall at 11:30 a.m. Immediate family are asked to assemble at the home of Myron Haskins, 537 Scott St., Petersburg, Va.
