Ruby Scott Obituary

On Dec. 4, 2011, Mrs. Ruby Elizabeth Scott, 87, also known as Scooter, Suga Momma as called by her grands, and Ruby Du, formerly of 222 E. Mercury St. (Bunker Hill), departed this life.

She was born Aug. 6, 1924, to the late Charles Alexander and Ruth Evans. She was the great-granddaughter of the late Deacon Giles B. Evans.

She was a former employee of Macklin-Zimmer McGill Tobacco Factory for over 40 years. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Zion Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va., where she was a member of the Pulpit Aid Society. She was also active in the Missionary Circle and a 2004 Diamond, as well as the Electra Chapter 7 Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William T. Scott Jr. (WT), and her great-great-grandson, Master Damarri A. Evans.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one devoted daughter, Marilyn Yvonne Scott; one son, William Rochester Evans (René) of New Hampshire; six grandchildren, Terrie Scott-Evans (Darrell), Dennis Perry (Bridgette), Tonia Perry-Darrisaw (Greg), Scott and Michael Evans, both of Massachusetts, and Leslie Evans of Pennsylvania; 11 great-grandchildren, Shanta Evans, TeQuan Perry, Iesha Smith, Kendal Perry, Marqieth Bonner, all of Petersburg, Va., Natassia Enimpah and Nathaniel Enimpah of Pennsylvania, Brandon and Nia Darrisaw of New Kent, Isaiah Smithson and Geneva Smithson, both of Massachusetts; four great-great-grandchildren, Armahn, Daviahn, Iyanna and Ikell; two sisters, Sandra Garnett and Lisa Jackson; one brother, Cornelius Evans; one stepbrother, Charles Belfield (Wanda); one aunt, Martha Evans; several cousins, to include Alice Grey, Ruby Dance and Jerome Bland (who taught her how to drive); and a devoted "BFF" for over 50 years, Bertha Smith.

"Miss Ruby," as she was affectionately known, will always be remembered for her warm greetings of "hey baby" and "suga suga," her sense of humor, her love for food, her beautiful skin, her faith in God, her love for family especially her grandchildren, her warm heart, her beautiful smile, her singing in the kitchen while cooking her Sunday dinners, her love for travel, and her famous hot homemade rolls. Miss Ruby has lived out the words to her favorite hymn, "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus, No Turning Back, No Turning Back."

A special thank you to the nursing staff of the River View on the Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center, Hopewell, Va., where they expressed their love for her and their appreciation for her ability to keep them laughing and being the life of the party, symbolic of our mother, grandmother and friend.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Zion Baptist Church, 225 Byrne St., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Andrew J. White Sr., pastor, and Evangelist Terrie Evans, of Jesus Way Fellowship Center of Petersburg, Va., eulogist. The interment to follow at the Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 37 Crater Wood Court, Petersburg, Va., and may be contacted by calling her daughter, Marilyn Scott, 804-526-1963, and her granddaughters, Terrie Scott-Evans, 804-863-4658, and Tonia Darrisaw, 804-586-2064.
