Dear Sis and Susan,
As Sammy was just 53 when he died, I am thinking the White family had moved away from Washington Street when he was born. I do believe Freddy was born there, though, and that you lived in the 3rd floor apartment at that time. Just want you to know that the White family meant so very much to me during my childhood. As you know, I was particularly close to Jane, as both of us were singers. For 2 or 3 years, Jane and I rode the bus to Richmond to take voice lessons . . . and then we went to Miller and Rhoads and Thalheimers and shopped (in high heels) 'til we dropped. WONDERFUL memories. But I loved all of you, and am mourning with you over the loss of Sammy. Sis and Susan, I hope both of you are doing well. Would love to hear from you about your familes: [email protected]. God Bless you!

Sam you will always be in our hearts and your family in our prayers. Not a day goes by that someone or something doesn't remind us all of you and how we miss you. You were my sister's true love and soulmate and I will forever be grateful to you for that. You and Brenda also gave me my first nephew Travis and he is also a wonderful person and a blessing to our family. No words can truly explain how we love and miss you.

Brenda,
I can't believe it's been almost a year. I think of you all the time. Our trip, due to gas prices, did not happen last summer. I really wanted to see you. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you and Sam. Please know that you are loved and prayed for every day.

Sam, you have been gone almost a year now and not a day passes that I don't think of you. You are missed as much now as you were the day you left us. You were the best friend anyone could have and I miss you. You will never be forgotten my friend. Thanks for the memories.

Brenda, I am so sorry for your loss. Even though we have only communicated over the internet, your loss has touched me very deeply. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your son at this time. Brenda,
I have been thinking over the past couple of days of all the fun we have had. So many memories have flooded me and all I can do is smile and then cry. I have missed you these last years, since I moved to Florida. You and Sam had a terrific life. I have never met two people who were so perfect together. This is a void that will never be filled. My words can not even begin to express the sorrow over this loss. Please know that you are loved and prayed for.
Also Darrel and Nicole send their prayers.

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

As a neighbor, I think Sam is a hero. It is impossible to know how many lives he may have saved by his hobby. He is regrettably, the last casualty of the Civil war and should be remembered as someone who made the community a little safer.
