SHIRLEY L. MCKELLAR

Mrs. Shirley Lee McKellar of Manhattan, N.Y., departed this life Thursday, January 28, 2016, at The Bronx Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare after a brief illness.

She was born October 12, 1946, in Petersburg, Va., the daughter of the late Waverly T. Lee, Sr., and Louise E. Lee. She was the fifth of ten children to this union. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester McKellar; one sister, Louise E. Gilliam, and two brothers, Waverly T. Lee, Jr., and Willie A. Lee.

Shirley was baptized and joined the New First Baptist Church in Petersburg, Va. (Birdsville). Shirley was a product of the Public School System of Petersburg, Va., and a 1966 graduate of Peabody High School. She lived in New York for approximately 45 years and retired from the Food Emporium in New York.

She leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, Brian McKellar of Richmond, Va., and Kevin McKellar of Manhattan, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Carolyn McKellar and Kayleigh McKellar; two brothers, John W. Lee of Brooklyn, N.Y., and David T. Lee of Petersburg, Va.; four sisters, Betty L. Samuel of Fayetteville, N.C., Susan L. Coleman of Dinwiddie, Va., Dorothy Greene and Mary E. Lee, both of Petersburg, Va.; four brothers-in-law, Charles L. Coleman of Dinwiddie, Va., Barry McKellar, Vinson McKellar and James McKellar, all of Georgia; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, amongst them a very close friend of the family, Ms. Jean Cunningham.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at the Chapel of Ortiz Funeral Home, New York, N.Y. Interment to follow at Calverton Cemetery, Long Island, NY.
