Sterl Armentrout Obituary

Sterl "Sonny" Edward Armentrout
Chester - 88 of Chester, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. Born January 18, 1933 in Bemis, WV, he was the son of the late Floyd and Ocie Kerens Armentrout. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Joan Bennett Armentrout, brothers Leon, Leo, Donald and Richard Armentrout and grandson Christopher Brewer. He is survived by his son Steve Armentrout (Leura Kay), and daughters Viki Armentrout (Roxy) and Kim Seymour (Chuck); grandson Christopher Kohlhepp (Christine), granddaughter Amanda Spencer (Michael), grandson Thomas Kohlhepp (Candace); granddaughter Andrea Beville (Daniel), great-grandchildren Layne Spencer, Madeline Kohlhepp, Lana Spencer, Maddox Kohlhepp, Kaydee and Everleigh Beville; brother Dorrin "Butch" Armentrout; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sonny spent the early part of his life living around Elkins, WV until he moved to Cumberland, MD in 1946 where he graduated from Allegany High School. He proudly served his county as a U. S. Marine. He and Joan moved to Colonial Heights VA in 1953 with everything that they owned in an old Chevrolet. He completed a printer apprentice program in 1956 with Plummer Printing Co. where he worked before transferring to Phillip Morris in 1975 where he retired in 1993. He was assistant little league football coach at Harrowgate Elementary School from 1965 to 1967. He was a founding member of Ettrick Matoaca Rescue Squad and volunteered with them for many years. He had a lifelong love and knowledge of steam trains and especially enjoyed spending time on his family's property in Gandy, WV. Sonny's ability to recall and verbally communicate family history and events made him an excellent storyteller and historian. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Western Heights Baptist Church, 24416 Cox Road, North Dinwiddie. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2021 at Western Heights Baptist Church with the Reverend Jonathan Dundalow officiating. Entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, S. Prince George. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Heart Association. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Jiho Han of Virginia Cardiovascular Specialist for his concern, compassion, and the guidance that he provided our family.
