Tyrone Sloan Obituary

Mr. Tyrone Sloan, 69, of 1317 Lincoln St., Petersburg, departed this life Feb. 3, 2010, at the Southside Regional Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 2, 1941, in Portsmouth, Va., to the late Lonnie Sloan Sr., and Viola Myrick Sloan. He was a graduate of the I.C. Norcom High School. After graduation, he began a career in the United States Army, until retirement; and also, worked with the Greenville Correctional Center.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife of 25 years, Frances P. Sloan; two sons, Kevin Sloan of Petersburg, and Terry Sloan (Lachell) of Gulfport, Miss.; four daughters, Tina Thompson, Yolanda Lyons (Darryl), Cindy Corley and Stacey Allen (Michael), all of Petersburg; one brother, Lonnie Sloan Jr. of Portsmouth, Va.; three sisters-in-law, Celestine Jones and Carolyn Moody (Thomas), both of Petersburg, and Loretta Witherspoon (Anthony) of Philadelphia; three brothers-in-law, John Henry Blakes Jr. (Darla) of San Antonio, William Blakes of Hopewell and Leroy Sample (Sharon) of Hopewell; his grandchildren, Jennifer Sloan, Damiane Sloan, Darryl Harris, one devoted, Anthony Lyons Jr., Tierra Sloan, Solomon Barcliff Jr., Brittany Sloan, Christian Thompson, Shorrell Sloan, Tyrone Sloan II, Male'ak Sloan and Terry Sloan Jr.; his great-grandchildren, Jeniayah Sloan, Jaylan Sloan, Miracle Sloan, Jordan Sloan, Autam Harris and Prince Barcliff; one uncle, Howard Whitaker (Maude) of Petersburg; three aunts, Mary W. Goode, two devoted, Eunice White of Waldorf, Md., and Ida Whitaker of Petersburg; and many other devoted friends and family.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at the Chapel of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg, with the Rev. Barbara Blakes delivering the eulogy. The interment will be in the Southlawn Memorial Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will assemble at the residence one hour prior to the service.
